Job description

Position Purpose

An Instructional Assistant in Nursing applies knowledge of nursing principles, procedures, and techniques in assisting students with problems related to their assignments.

  • General supervision comes from the Department Chair.
  • Functional supervision is from instructional faculty and the lab coordinator.
Essential Functions

Duties include the following:

  1. Assist students to perform nursing procedures in the lab settings. Set up supplies and equipment and assist in conducting lab and classroom demonstrations.
  2. Ensure student compliance with lab policies, procedures, and safety precautions.
  3. Provide remedial instruction to students in the lab setting.
  4. Advise instructional staff of common problems encountered and progress made by students in the lab setting.
  5. Assist students in the operation of software such as Virtual Simulation and the Electronic Health Records used in the lab.
  6. Maintain and make minor adjustments and repairs to instructional media and hospital equipment and advise lab coordinator of major repairs.
  7. Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment as needed, along with keeping storeroom and working areas orderly and clean.
  8. Maintain records of student laboratory attendance and skills competencies.
  9. Proctor written and computerized examinations.
  10. Assist in the operation of the simulation laboratory.
  11. May be assigned to perform other duties in the Nursing Department during peak workload periods and in the absence of assigned staff.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Requires a minimum of a Bachelor's degree with a major in Nursing.

Must be a Registered Nurse with a current, valid, unrestricted license in the state of Ohio.

Requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.

Please ensure that your resume includes both the months and years of work for each of your previous employers, to comply with the Ohio Board of Nursing.

Prefer teaching experience in a Practical Nursing Program. Recent teaching experience in an education/staff development department will also be considered.

Must be flexible to work during the week, evenings, or weekends.
