The University of Georgia seeks a PMRC Field Crew Member to support installation, maintenance, and documentation of research field plots across multiple states. You will follow study work plans, operate independently or with a crew, and tackle scheduling, safety, and process improvements through observation and trial and error.

Job Title

PMRC Field Crew Member

Location

Position Summary

This position implements the installation, maintenance, treatment, measurement, and documentation of research field plots for a regional forestry program from Virginia to Florida to East Texas. The employee follows study work plans and protocols, often working independently or as part of a crew. Tasks require problem solving regarding scheduling, safety, quality, and methods, and improving work processes through observation and trial and error.

Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, treat, measure, sample, and document PMRC research field trials.
  • Execute field program tasks as scheduled by the PMRC Research Coordinator and Field Crew Leader, following study work plans and protocols.
  • Implement competition control, fertilization, thinning, and other treatments.
  • Measure and sample planted pine and secondary vegetation.
  • Ensure safety, quality, and efficiency in all activities.
  • Complete diverse field and laboratory tasks on grant‑funded projects such as destructive biomass sampling of pine trees and secondary vegetation, tree mapping in plantations, and foliar sampling.
  • Maintain PMRC fleet of vehicles including trucks, SUVs, and off‑road vehicles.
Minimum Qualifications

Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2‑year degree, or a professional certificate. Applicants must meet the education/experience criteria or contact Human Resources for evaluation.

Physical Demands
  • Extensive work in many environmental conditions throughout the year (e.g., hot and cold weather, rain, noxious flora and fauna).
  • Occasional handling of heavy materials and working in challenging surroundings (e.g., harvested sites or sites with dense forest growth).
  • Handling of pesticides and fertilizers.
  • Extensive travel.

Driving is a responsibility of this position.

Benefits and Employment Terms

Employment type: Employee, Full Time. Benefits eligible. Salary commensurate with experience. Schedule Monday through Friday 8‑5, with possible weekend and evening work. Suggested starting date: 06/01/2025. Open until filled.
