Job summary

Old Dutch Foods in Saint Paul, MN is seeking a PMO - 1st Shift Packaging Machine Operator to monitor and operate the packaging lines, perform set-ups and changeovers, and ensure quality and output meet specifications.

The role requires mechanical aptitude, basic computer skills, and the ability to work as a team in a fast, sometimes loud manufacturing environment. Shift: Monday–Friday, 5:00 AM–2:00 PM, on-site with opportunities for overtime.

Responsibilities

• Assure packaging machines run at set quantity and quality.
• Setup, complete changeovers, shut down and drain packaging machines as scheduled.
• Perform minor maintenance and repair to keep equipment running.
• Report problems beyond 10 minutes to the supervisor.
• Keep supplies stocked at machines (film, seasoning, etc.).
• Maintain a log for each machine noting downtime.
• Meet minimum downtime and material waste targets.
• Perform cleaning of equipment for changeovers and week end.

The Packaging Operator is responsible for maintaining the quality and output quantity of the packaging machinery. This includes set-up, changeovers, shutdown, cleaning, and drain. Maintains operating efficiency, performs basic repair and adjustments, minor troubleshooting. Properly retrieves and return needed film, folding cartons, seasoning, and other supplies, perform scheduled Quality Assurance (QA) checks.

Experience working on packaging machinery and manufacturing environment or working experience with form, fill, and seal machinery. Must have mechanical aptitude and basic computer skills. Ability to read and follow the schedule and set and run packaging equipment accordingly. Ability to work as a team member respectfully under pressure.

Job Duties:

• Assure that the packaging machines are running at set quantity and proper quality specifications.
• Setup, complete changeovers, shut down and/or drain the packaging machines according to the production schedule.
• Perform minor maintenance and repair work to keep the packaging equipment running.
• Report problems to supervisor that cannot be repaired within 10 minutes.
• Keep machinery and staging areas supplied with supplies i.e., film, seasoning powder, stickers, change-over parts.
• Assist other PMO’s as needed to maintain production needs.
• Keep a log for each machine, recording all machine downtime.
• Maintain minimum downtime and material waste.
• Perform cleaning of equipment to proper specification necessary for changeovers and end of week.
• Perform all quality checks and record data as required.
• Continuously monitor packaging machines.
• Perform other related duties as directed by supervisor.
• Keeps work area neat and clean.

Essential job functions:

• Ability to operate and maintain packaging machines with limited down time to company specifications.
• Able to make minor repairs and/or adjustments quickly and safely.
• Able to clearly explain problems or at least explain the symptoms to co-operators and/or maintenance personnel or supervisor(s).
• Maneuver around machinery 100% of the workday.
• Climb ladders/stairs as needed throughout the day.
• Lift heavy, even, or uneven loads weighing up to 64 pounds.
• Bend or squat 25-50% of the workday.
• Work in awkward or tight work areas.
• Maneuver cautiously on slippery floors surfaces.
• Work on elevated platforms.
• Work in hot, humid, cold, noisy, wet, and odorous environment.
• Use hands and arms outstretched from body or overhead.
• Hear and communicate respectfully with others in noise, to ensure quality and safety.
• Successfully completes the safety training and adheres to the requirements.
• Work up to 40 hours per week or more if needed.
• Must have dependable attendance.
• Must be willing and able to work as a team.
• Work safely with and trouble-shoot moving machinery.
• Maintain authorization to operate lift trucks.
