Daily's Premium Meats in Saint Joseph, MO, is seeking a Shipping & Receiving Supervisor to lead the shipping area, ensuring accurate orders and safe, efficient operations. You will train staff, verify bills of lading, oversee inventory, and coordinate with purchasing to resolve discrepancies, while meeting deadlines and upholding company policies.

The role requires high school level education with 3+ years in shipping/material handling, forklift and pallet jack proficiency, and strong Excel

Qualifications

  • High school or equivalent education with 3+ years shipping and/or material handling and inventory experience.
  • Food industry experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents in English; write routine reports; present information.
  • Computer literacy with intermediate Excel skills; forklift and pallet jack proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and verifies shipping documents; ensures quantities and routing match orders.
  • Receives, unloads, and inventories materials; compares packing slips to orders.
  • Sorts, logs, and packages inventory shipped or received; logs discrepancies.
  • Inspects shipments for damages and notifies supervisor or purchasing.
  • Delivers items to requisitioning departments; secures authorized signatures for accepted items.
  • Leads, trains, and guides shipping area staff; maintains records and reports.

Job description

SUMMARY:

Performs a variety of shipping and receiving tasks. Verifies materials received are as ordered and routes incoming items to appropriate departments/locations. Provides day-to-day leadership for all employees in the shipping area. Establish means and methods to insure all employees perform job functions correctly and safely. Ensure deadlines are met, adhere to company policies and procedures, and responsible for employee training.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

include, but are not limited to the following: (other duties may be assigned)

  • Prepares bills of lading; checks items to be shipped against orders to ascertain that quantities, destination, and routing are correct.
  • Receives and unloads incoming materials and compares information on packing slip with purchase order to verify accuracy of shipment.
  • Sorts, counts, packages, labels, insures, unpacks, and/or logs inventory which is shipped or received.
  • Inspects shipments for damages or defects; records discrepancies or damages and notifies supervisor and/or purchasing personnel.
  • Delivers items to requisitioning departments and obtains authorized signatures for accepted items.
  • May maintain department database, prepare routine reports, and file shipping/receiving records.
  • May operate dolly, pallet jack, and/or forklift in loading and unloading supplies and equipment; may operate shrink wrap machine; may assist in routine maintenance of equipment and shipping area.
  • Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety standards.
  • Leads, guides, and trains employees performing related work.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school or equivalent education with 3 or more years shipping and or material handling and inventory experience, or combination of education and experience. Food industry experience is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents in the English language such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Must be able to write routine reports and correspondence. Must be able to effectively present information before groups, within the organization. Bilingual skills in Spanish are a plus.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations. Ability to perform necessary calculations for completion of row counts for shipping and daily time sheets

OTHER SKILLS:

Must be computer literate with intermediate skills in Excel. Must have advanced skills with forklifts and electric pallet jacks.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must be able to make decisions on routine matters utilizing company policies and procedures and directions from upper management.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must have adequate eyesight and hearing to be able to recognize hazards to equipment and personnel.

Must be able to turn in all directions in order to observe objects and employees nearby. Full range of motion in extremities to allow proper movement and handling of product. Must be able to walk or stand for at least 90% of assigned shift.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee routiney works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to wet, cold and/or humid conditions.

The noise level in the work environment is usually at a level where OSHA requires hearing protection.

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE:

The hours and days of work are established by departmental needs and at the discretion of management. Must be available to work as scheduled – including weekends.
