Job summary

Homestake Peak School in Avon, Colorado seeks a dedicated custodian to perform custodial and housekeeping tasks ensuring a clean, safe environment for students, staff, and visitors. This full-time role reports to the Lead Custodian and offers comprehensive benefits.

Applicants should be able to work independently and follow safety protocols. Responsibilities include cleaning classrooms, restrooms, floors, windows, and general maintenance tasks, with periodic deep cleaning and site safety

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred, or relevant work experience.
• Ability to perform physical job duties, including lifting, bending, and prolonged standing.
• Basic communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to follow directions and work independently.
• Basic English language skills preferred.

Responsibilities

• Clean classrooms, offices, lounges, restrooms, and common areas according to schedules.
• Clean and disinfect restrooms and high-touch surfaces.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, buff floors, including gym floors.
• Dust and clean furniture, fixtures, windows, boards, counters.
• Empty wastebaskets and dispose of trash properly.
• Clean and reset gymnasiums and bleachers after activities.
• Complete cleaning tasks after events and breaks.
• Wash walls, lockers, shelves, and surfaces during deep cleaning.
• Repair minor maintenance issues and report safety concerns.
• Monitor building systems and equipment; maintain logs.
• Secure the building at shift end.

SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:
Performs custodial and housekeeping services to maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment for students, staff, and visitors.

SUPERVISED BY:
Lead Custodian

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Cleaning & Sanitation

• Clean classrooms, offices, lounges, restrooms, and common areas according to established schedules.
• Clean and disinfect restrooms and high-touch surfaces.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, buff, and maintain floors, including gymnasium floors.
• Dust and clean furniture, fixtures, windows, chalkboards/whiteboards, counters, and other surfaces.
• Empty wastebaskets and dispose of trash properly.
• Clean and reset gymnasiums and bleachers after activities.
• Complete cleaning tasks following special events and during school breaks.

Periodic & Deep Cleaning

• Wash walls, lockers (interior and exterior), shelves, countertops, cabinet doors, sinks, doors, and windows.
• Clean window blinds and light fixtures; replace burned-out bulbs.
• Shampoo carpets and maintain floor finishes (strip, wax, and buff floors).
• Wash trash containers and refinish gymnasium floors as scheduled.

Maintenance & Repairs

• Perform minor maintenance and repairs, including:
• • Replacing ceiling tiles, lamps, diffusers, and switch/cover plates
  • Repairing lockers, furniture, and door hardware
  • Installing or relocating boards, shelves, and classroom equipment
  • Plunging/augering toilets and drains
• Inspect facilities and report maintenance and safety concerns to the supervisor.
• Submit requests for cleaning supplies and replacement materials.

Facility & Equipment Monitoring

• Monitor building systems and equipment, including central plant and kitchen equipment; maintain required logs.
• Clean and maintain custodial equipment.
• Conduct assigned site safety inspections.

Grounds & General Duties

• Maintain cleanliness and appearance of school grounds, walkways, and entrances.
• Report landscaping or exterior maintenance issues.
• Complete seasonal work, including painting and deep cleaning projects.
• Secure the building at the end of the shift (doors, windows, lights).

General Responsibilities

• Follow all safety procedures and perform work in a safe manner.
• Use appropriate cleaning materials and equipment as directed.
• Establish and maintain effective communication with students, staff, and the public.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Custodian, Building Principal, or Facilities Manager.
