Job description

JOB TITLE: Custodian WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Nonexempt

REPORTS TO: Custodial Services

DEPT/SCHOOL: Campus Assigned DATE REVISED: April 2020

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of cleaning procedures and equipment preferred. Knowledge of minor repairs and building systems.

Minimum Experience: Experience preferred but not required.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

1. Maintain cleanliness to ensure the comfort, health, and safety of students and staff.
2. Efficiently clean assigned areas within scheduled time, including floors, chalkboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, restrooms, and outdoor areas.
3. Follow procedures for securing facilities and regulating HVAC systems.
4. Adhere to safety instructions; report hazards, emergencies, injuries, and repairs promptly.
5. Manage custodial equipment and supplies properly.
6. Work scheduled shifts, which may include day, night, weekend, and holiday hours at various district locations.
7. Operate tools and equipment safely; perform minor maintenance as needed.
8. Attend training sessions and implement learned procedures.
9. Maintain professional appearance and adhere to district policies, including uniform policies.
10. Perform additional duties such as minor building maintenance, furniture movement, and supply handling as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Tools/Equipment: Mops, brooms, shampoo machines, buffers, strippers, vacuums, leaf blower, hand and power tools, ladder.

Mental Demands: Effective communication (oral and written), ability to work independently and with others.

Physical Demands: Walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting (45 lbs+), working indoors and outdoors, exposure to temperature extremes, dust, chemicals, slippery surfaces, ladders, and varying work hours and locations.
