Responsibilities

  • Teaches plumbing skills and knowledge full-time to students in grades 11-12 across Fitchburg, Gardner, and Narragansett Regional districts.
  • Instructs pupils in citizenship, basic communication, and general elements of the competency-based course of study.
  • Develops lesson plans and organizes class time to balance instruction, shop work, and cleanup.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of materials, equipment, and processes with models and instructional aids.
  • Instructs in safety precautions and safe operation of tools and equipment.
  • Grading and monitoring student progress via reports and competency lists.
  • Communicates with employers, parents, and counselors on pupil progress.
  • Collaborates with MVP Program Manager on attendance, grades, and records.
  • Attends IEP meetings and provides input as required.
  • Provides supervision and extra help to students.
  • Attends meetings as required by the contract.
  • Performs duties assigned by the Superintendent-Director.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Teaches plumbing skills and knowledge full-time to students enrolled in Fitchburg, Gardner, and Narragansett Regional school districts in grades 11-12.
  • Instructs pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the competency-based course of study common to all teachers, as specified in state law, administrative regulations, and procedures of the school district.
  • Develops lesson plans, maintains plan book, and organizes class time so that preparation, instruction, shop work, and clean-up activities can be accomplished within the allotted time.
  • Demonstrates professional knowledge and competency regarding occupational materials, equipment, tools, and processes using standard or teacher-prepared models, mock-ups, sketches, and other instructional aids in accordance with the plumbing competency-based task listing.
  • Instructs pupils in the appropriate safety precautions and the safe operation and use of tools, machinery, and equipment.
  • Grades and monitors student progress through the use of progress reports, report cards, and student competency lists.
  • Communicates with employers, parents, and school counselors on individual pupil progress.
  • Collaborates with the MVP Program Manager to ensure regular communication of daily attendance, quarterly grades, disciplinary concerns, and other information relevant to student records.
  • Participates in special education Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, where the teacher’s input is required.
  • Attends special education Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, where the teacher’s presence is required.
  • Provides supervision and extra help to students where needed.
  • Attends meetings as required by the teacher's contract.
  • Performs other duties assigned by the Superintendent-Director.
Physical Requirements

This position may require long periods of standing and lifting up to 50lbs. The teacher may also be required to operate hand tools and motor equipment and may work in confined spaces with exposure to dust, smoke, fumes, and gases.

Terms of Employment

Ten-month, school year position (183 days).

Initial salary will be established by the Superintendent-Director in accordance with the Teachers’ Contract.

Fringe benefits as outlined in the Teachers’ Contract.

Evaluation

As per the Teachers’ Contract.

Job Requirements
  • QUALIFICATIONS:
    1. Must hold the appropriate Chapter 74 teaching license from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education or be eligible to obtain such a license.
    Requirements to obtain:
    High school diploma or the equivalent
    Five years of recent (within the last seven years), full-time employment experience directly related to plumbing
    Passing score on each of the written and performance exams for plumbing
    Possession of a current MA Journeyman Plumber license
    Possession of a current MA Master Plumber license
    Achieve a passing score of either Vocational Technical Literacy Skills or Communication and Literacy Skills
    2. Must demonstrate the ability to work with students, staff, administrators, parents, and the public in creating an atmosphere where individuals feel welcome and respected.
    3. Must be able to work as part of a team and independently.
    4. Must have a valid driver’s license.
    5. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
    6. Must be comfortable using computers and software.
    7. Prior teaching experience preferred.
    8. May have such alternatives to the above as the Superintendent-Director deems appropriate and acceptable.
