WDF Inc., a Tutor Perini Company, is seeking a Plumbing Field Engineer to join our Mt Vernon, NY and NY Metro area project sites. The role focuses on planning, coordination, and execution of plumbing work under the general contractor, ensuring installations meet design specs, schedules, and codes.

The position requires collaboration with field operations, subcontractors, and design teams to deliver high-quality MEP results, with an emphasis on safety and efficiency across multiple site locations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
• Two or more years of experience in plumbing or MEP construction.
• Experience with general contractors or large mechanical subcontractors is preferred.
• Solid understanding of plumbing systems and related codes.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate plumbing work with designers, engineers, and field teams.
• Monitor installation activities for compliance with plans and safety standards.
• Maintain logs, track progress, and support field reports and punch lists.

Position Summary

The Plumbing Field Engineer supports the planning, coordination, and execution of all plumbing work on construction projects. Working under the general contractor, this role ensures that plumbing systems are installed per design specifications, project schedules, safety standards, and applicable codes. The position acts as a liaison between field operations, subcontractors, design teams, and project management to ensure quality and efficiency in MEP delivery.

Job Description

Project Coordination & Technical Support

• Review plumbing drawings, specifications, and submittals for accuracy and constructability.
• Coordinate with plumbing subcontractors, architects, engineers, and other trades to resolve design or field issues.
• Assist with layout, installation planning, and field verification of plumbing systems.
• Support the implementation of BIM coordination and clash detection for MEP systems.

Field Management

• Monitor plumbing installation activities to ensure compliance with plans, codes, and safety regulations.
• Conduct site inspections and quality checks on domestic water piping, sanitary and storm drainage, plumbing fixtures, and equipment installations.
• Maintain daily logs, track progress, and assist in preparing field reports and punch lists.
• Verify equipment deliveries, storage, and handling to ensure manufacturer requirements are met.

Scheduling & Cost Control

• Assist in developing and maintaining MEP project schedules.
• Track progress of plumbing work against schedule milestones.
• Support cost tracking, change order documentation, and subcontractor billing verification.

Testing, Commissioning & Closeout

• Coordinate plumbing pressure testing, flushing, disinfection, and inspection activities.
• Support commissioning documentation, start-up procedures, and turnover packages.
• Ensure as-built drawings, O&M manuals, and warranties are properly collected and submitted.

Safety & Compliance

• Enforce site safety policies and promote a safe work environment.
• Ensure all plumbing work meets local plumbing and building codes, water-efficiency standards, and environmental regulations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred. High School Diploma required.
• Two (2)+ years of experience in plumbing or MEP construction, including field or project engineering.
• Experience working with a general contractor or large mechanical subcontractor strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of plumbing systems, including domestic water, sanitary and storm drainage, gas, fixtures, and equipment.
• Familiarity with construction documents, specifications, and submittal processes.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and MS Project or Primavera P6.
• Knowledge of plumbing codes, including IPC, local plumbing codes, and applicable NYC requirements, and commissioning practices.
• Excellent communication and coordination abilities.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Attention to detail with strong organizational and documentation habits.
