About the Position
We seek an individual with a collaborative spirit who can seamlessly work together with other top-talented architects, engineers, designers, and drafters to advance our projects. Somerville engineers are problem solvers who demonstrate strong critical-thinking abilities, great attention to detail, and exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Your role will involve
- Collaborating with other engineers while mentoring designers and drafters
- Performing building system assessments, documenting existing conditions, and writing reports that provide recommendations for refurbishment or replacement
- Writing scope of work documents for plumbing designs
- Clearly and effectively presenting complex plumbing engineering concerns and solutions to the owner and design team
- Conducting calculations for appropriate plumbing and/or fire protection systems and plumbing equipment selection
- Utilizing BIM software and visualization methods to design plumbing systems and provide layouts
- Incorporating best practices and sustainability strategies into designs
- Ensuring projects meet client expectations and code requirements
- Providing estimates of probable construction costs for plumbing designs
- Coordinating with consultants and contractors
- Researching new/emerging products, equipment, and systems
- Compiling system specifications, details, and schedules
- Performing field observation and ensuring adherence to plumbing design intent
Qualifications
- Experience
- Four or more years of plumbing design experience for buildings in the healthcare, education, community, or commercial markets
- A strong portfolio of work
- Technical Knowledge
- Experience with Revit, BIM software, and Bluebeam preferred
- Understanding of Wisconsin Administrative Plumbing code
- Education & Licenses
- Associate degree or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Certified Plumbing Designer (CPD), Designer of Engineering Systems (DES) credential, or Professional Engineer (PE) license
- LEED accreditation preferred
