Job summary

Barton Associates is seeking a Plumbing Designer to join our Philadelphia office. This role designs and documents plumbing systems for diverse building projects from layout to construction administration. Fire protection experience is strongly preferred, and HVAC is a plus.

The successful candidate will apply IPC and fuel gas codes, perform system calculations, and coordinate with project teams throughout the design and construction process. Proficiency in Revit or AutoCAD is required.

Qualifications

• Experience designing plumbing systems for building projects.
• Knowledge of International Plumbing Code (IPC) and fuel gas codes.
• Experience with sanitary waste and vent system layout and domestic water sizing.
• Proficiency in Revit, or strong AutoCAD experience with willingness to develop Revit skills.
• Strong communication and project coordination skills.

Responsibilities

• Design plumbing systems including domestic cold and hot water, sanitary waste and vent, storm drainage, and gas distribution systems.
• Layout sanitary and vent systems with appropriate venting strategies.
• Size domestic water systems and fuel gas piping, including load calculations and regulator selection.
• Design and coordinate medical gas systems per NFPA 99 and FGI requirements.
• Produce construction documents in Revit, including plans, risers, details, schedules, and calculations.
• Apply plumbing, fuel gas, state and local codes to project designs.
• Support fire protection design and documentation efforts.
• Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients throughout project execution.
• Respond to RFIs, review submittals, conduct site surveys, and support construction administration activities.
