Job summary

Jacobs in Chicago is seeking an energetic Plumbing Designer to deliver plumbing/utility design packages for data center clients, including DWV, potable water, process drains, and domestic water systems. You’ll design, develop, and prepare construction documents and coordinate with multiple disciplines on fast-moving data center projects.

Bring at least 6 years of plumbing systems design experience in industrial facilities, CAD standards, proficiency in Revit, and strong communication.

Qualifications

  • At least 6 years’ experience in the design of plumbing systems for industrial facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in generating design documents adhering to applicable CAD standards for plumbing design packages within an A&E firm.
  • Proficiency in Revit.
  • Thorough knowledge of codes and standards related to design of plumbing systems.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work well within a dynamic team environment with multiple deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Layout and design of Plumbing systems.
  • Development of conceptual design and preliminary design documents, including sizing calculations, Isometrics, Riser Diagrams, details, fixture schedules, and general arrangements.
  • Development of final construction documents for domestic water, sanitary waste and vent, etc.
  • Coordination with other disciplines and develop a plumbing design package.

In our Mechanical/Plumbing Data Center team, we elevate our clients by delivering cost‑effective and transformative projects. We understand that the success of our clients is about more than well‑designed facilities; it’s about well‑designed strategies tailored for every market and every location.

We're looking for an energetic Plumbing Designer to focus on our fast‑moving Data Center market. Join us, and you’ll impact our success by delivering innovative plumbing design solutions for our Data Center clients. You will design plumbing/utility design packages for our data center clients. You’ll also prepare construction package drawings for DWV, potable water, process drains, storm drains, and domestic water systems.

You’ll be accountable for the schedule and technical quality of challenging engineering tasks as you gain familiarity with the client’s expectations, scope, budget, and schedule. You’ll work with a multi‑discipline, highly interactive team to establish a plumbing design basis, coordinate with other engineering disciplines, Plumbing Engineers and develop a plumbing design package. Your role keeps our company connected, and we’ll support you with what you need to be successful.

Highlights of your contributions will include
  • Layout and design of Plumbing systems
  • Development of conceptual design and preliminary design documents, which would include calculations related to sizing and selecting these systems, the development of Isometrics, Riser Diagrams, details, fixture schedules, and general arrangements.
  • Development of final construction documents associated with these systems. These systems would include domestic water (cold and hot), sanitary waste and vent, etc.
  • Coordination with other disciplines.

Here’s what you’ll need
  • At least 6 years’ experience in the design of plumbing systems for industrial facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in generating design documents adhering to applicable CAD standards for plumbing design packages within an A&E firm.
  • Trade School or Associates Degree.
  • Proficiency in Revit.
  • Thorough knowledge of codes and standards related to design of plumbing systems.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work well within a dynamic team environment with multiple deadlines.
Ideally, You’ll Also Have
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Ability to work well within a dynamic team environment with multiple deadlines.
  • Past experience on data center projects.

The base salary range for this position is $71,000.00 to $97,600.00; though will be paid hourly based on hours worked. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
