Job description

The King County’s Facilities Management Division (FMD), Building Operations Section(BOS), is looking for an experienced Plumbing and Mechanical II (Plumber Foreman), who will supervise a crew of journey-level plumbing and mechanical workers.

This position is responsible for the planning, scheduling, reviewing, and executing of the crew’s work. This work includes maintaining, repairing, and installing mechanical and plumbing systems and components such as pipes, storm and sanitary sewers, wet and dry fire sprinkler systems, valves, steam valves, traps, drains, basins, tubs, faucets, sinks, hydrants, heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), refrigeration systems, and kitchen and laundry installations typically found in various types of commercial buildings as well as secure detention facilities.

  • Model best practices in supervising journey-level plumbing and mechanical workers on a variety of multiple discipline projects.
  • Plan, organize, schedule, and coordinate daily work activities of assigned work unit; prepare and assign work schedules and staffing plans; assign, evaluate and monitor work quality and quantity.
  • Provide input and/or prepare performance feedback for supervised staff; investigate and address performance and conduct issues of supervised staff in a timely manner as guided by KC policies, MLAs, and Human Resources.
  • Promote and support a safe working environment for self and supervised crew.
  • Foster and model an environment in which every employee is accountable for high-quality, safe, and problem-solving service delivery.
  • Develop strategies and/or plumbing and mechanical solutions for new installations and existing systems.
  • Develop estimates for pre-determined and billable services to include material, labor, equipment rental charges, permit fees, and subcontractor costs for various disciplines.
  • Maintain accurate filing and records keeping for personnel, building, vendor, and projects.
  • Interpret existing conditions and drawings in relationship to client's objectives and current codes.
  • Review project specifications and drawings for material standards and constructability.
  • Perform Plumbing and Mechanical I duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • A Washington State Plumber’s License, journey-level plumber (PLO1) at the time of offer.
  • Completed a verifiable apprenticeship program or equivalent program within the plumbing industry and at least three years of full-time paid experience as a journey-level plumber.
  • Demonstrated experience and skill in a leadership role.
  • Knowledge and continuous learning of installation and maintenance of pipe, plumbing, refrigeration, and duct systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and continuous learning of Uniform Plumbing Code and other related codes and requirements.
  • Ability to clearly communicate orally and in writing, and read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and manufacturer's bulletins.
  • Demonstrated skill and continuous learning in the use, operation, and care of tools, machinery, and equipment used in the plumbing and mechanical trades.

MOST COMPETITVE CANDIDATES WILL HAVE:

  • Washington State PL01 Commercial Plumber License (required)
  • Backflow Testing License
  • Certified Welder Card
  • Journey-level Steamfitter (Pipefitter) Card

ADDITIONAL POSITION INFORMATION:

  • The Washington State PL01 Commercial Plumber License is required to be considered for this opportunity.
  • The successful candidate must also have a Backflow Testing Certification, or the ability to obtain the certification within the first 6 months of employment.
  • This position has been designated by department leadership as a FIRST RESPONDER in the event of a proclaimed emergency.
  • This position reports to the King County Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent, WA however, may be relocated to other locations such as the Courthouse in Downtown Seattle.
  • The work schedule is Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • We are also creating a hiring list for any future positions that become available in the next 12 months.
  • This position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and are therefore overtime eligible.
  • Final appointment is contingent upon successfully passing a thorough federal and county background investigation, reference checks, and clearing a pre-employment physical examination.
