Des Moines Public School District is seeking a Plumber/Steamfitter to support FACILITY MANAGEMENT in Des Moines, IA. This full-time role requires a Journeyperson license in plumbing and mechanical with Iowa, plus at least five years of relevant experience.

The job covers maintenance of piping, HVAC systems, boilers, chillers, cooling towers and water-source heat pumps, with building automation troubleshooting. On-call 24/7 and 260-day schedule apply.

Qualifications

• Journeyperson license in plumbing and mechanical with state of Iowa.
• Minimum five years training/experience in piping/HVAC.
• Valid driver’s license and vehicle access for daily travel.
• EPA section 608 Technician Certification for refrigeration.
• Knowledge of roof top unit repair, maintenance and programming.
• Ability to read blueprints and calculate materials.
• Working knowledge of water treatment in open and closed loop systems.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and vendor software.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.

Responsibilities

• Maintains piping systems and HVAC equipment per district standards.
• Maintains chiller systems, including tube cleaning and rebuilds.
• Prioritizes workload with organizational skills and problem solving.
• Maintains cooling towers and performs startup/shutdown annually.
• Installs/maintains water source heat pumps.
• Troubleshoots with building automation systems.
• Repairs/installs hot and cold-water piping systems.
• Maintains steam and hot water boiler systems.
• Reads instruments/controls and programs thermostats.
• On-call 24/7; supports district facilities and operations.
