EMCOR Services Aircond in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Plumber Mechanic Helper to assist a Plumbing Mechanic by supplying materials, keeping work areas and tools clean, and supporting piping installations on commercial and light industrial sites. Responsibilities include assembling pipe, rough-ins, installing fixtures, and assisting in layout for air, ammonia, gas and water systems.

A high school diploma or GED is required; 1–3 years of relevant experience and a valid driver’s license are

Responsibilities

• Measure, cut and assemble pipe as directed.
• Cut or drill holes to accommodate pipe passage.
• Assist with rough-ins, repair and replacement of fixtures and water heaters.
• Assist plumber in layout and installation of piping for air, ammonia, gas and water systems.
• Mount brackets and supports for pipes; prepare sleeves and inserts.
• Disassemble damaged pipe and perform regular maintenance.
• Respond to emergency calls as needed.

Job Title: Plumber Mechanic Helper

Position will provide assistance to Plumbing Mechanic by using, supplying or holding materials or tools. Expected to ensure work area, tools and equipment are clean.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

• Measure, cut and assemble new pipe, placing the assembled pipe as directed.
• Cut or drill holes in walls or floors to accommodate the passage of pipe.
• Perform rough-ins, repair and replace fixtures and water heaters; locate, repair or remove leaking or broken pipe.
• Assist plumber in layout, assembly and installation of piping for air, ammonia, gas and water systems.
• Fit or assist in fitting valves, couplings or assemblies to tanks, pumps or systems using hand tools.
• Mount brackets hangers on walls and ceilings to hold pipes. Set sleeves and inserts to provide supports for pipes.
• Disassemble and remove damaged or worn pipe.
• Immerse pipe in chemical solution to remove dirt, oil and scale.
• Clean work areas, tools and/or equipment.
• Respond to emergency calls as needed.
• Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
• Completion of trade/technical school or other apprenticeship programs is preferred.
• Minimum of one – three years prior work experience as a plumber’s helper in commercial or light industrial settings is necessary.
• Ability to use power tools and equipment commonly used in the construction trade in a safe manner is required.

Mathematical Skills

Must possess basic math skills to include addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Ability to perform basic operations using units of American money and weight measurement, and volume.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed and sometimes complex written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.

Valid Driver’s License

Physical Demands

Must be able to climb ladders, lift and carry 50 or more pounds, distinguish colors for electrical work and tolerate confined spaces. Work will involve heights and seasonal temperature extremes.
