Job summary

Qualifications

• Must read and understand English to follow specs and instructions.
• Ability to read a tape measure and interpret measurements.
• Strong eye for detail and accuracy in pipe installations.

Responsibilities

• Study specs and drawings to determine required work aids and installation sequence.
• Inspect structure to avoid obstructions that could weaken it during pipe installation.
• Locate and mark pipe positions and openings in walls and floors.
• Cut openings in walls and floors to fit pipes using hand and power tools.
• Cut and thread pipe using pipe cutters, torch, and threading machine.
• Bend pipe to required angles using bending tools.
• Assemble and install valves, fittings, and pipes of various materials.
• Join pipes using screws, bolts, fittings, solder, or solvent.
• Fill the system with water or air and check for leaks.
• Install and repair plumbing as required per build.
• May weld fixtures to steel structural members.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB SUMMARY:

Assembles, installs, and repairs pipes, fittings, to specifications and plumbing spec.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Studies spec and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations.
• Inspects structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe.
• Locates and marks position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors
• Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings, using hand tools and power tools.
• Cuts and threads pipe, using pipe cutters, cutting torch, and pipe-threading machine.
• Bends pipe to required angle by use of pipe-bending machine or by placing pipe over block and bending it by hand.
• Assembles and installs valves, pipefittings, and pipes composed of metals, such as iron, steel, brass, and lead, and nonmetals, such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic, using hand tools and power tools.
• Joins pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and caulks joints.
• Fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking.
• Installs and repairs plumbing as required per build.
• May weld holding fixtures to steel structural members.
• Performs other work as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Must possess a HS Diploma, GED or equivalent
• Must be able to read and understand English
• Must be able to read tape measure
