JOB SUMMARY: Through classroom and on-the-job training (OJT), learns and applies fundamentals of Plumbing trade in commercial industry.

REPORTS TO: Foreman/LeadMan

POTENTIAL CAREER OPPORTUNITIES: Upon successful completion of four-year apprenticeship (including 244 classroom hours and 8,000 hours of OJT) and passing state exam, you will be journeyman Plumber technician. After an additional 3,750 hours of advanced Plumber work, you can earn a master's license. Journeyman or Master Plumber Technicians can manage projects (Leadman, Foreman) in the field or become Project Managers.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Able to work Monday-Friday with occasional evenings and weekends as needed. Must be flexible with schedule.
• Reliable transportation- go to sites in DC, VA and MD as assigned/needed.
• Perform arithmetic calculations (add/subtract/multiply/divide, including fractions and decimals).
• 0-1 years of prior experience as a laborer, skilled laborer, helper, or in another related trade.
• Completion of 9th grade (high school diploma or GED strongly preferred).
• Satisfactory background check and initial/random drug tests.
• Dependable and reliable.
• Works well with team, including other trades.
• Inquisitive: wants to learn; asks questions.
• Communicates effectively in English.
• Able to lift up to seventy-five pounds (75lbs), with or without assistance, frequently.
• Able to sit, stand, bend, walk, climb, and remain in static positions for duration of shift.
• Able to withstand exposure to heights, tight/confined spaces; work in dusty areas; work in temperature extremes; be exposed to external elements (wind, rain, snow, etc.).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Attend apprentice classes in trade and maintains OJT logs; works under supervision of journeyman-level tradesperson to assemble/complete work.
• Learn to read blue prints and CAD drawings, as well as specifications.
• Learn appropriate plumbing code to install, as well as fundamentals of plumbing.
• Learn how to cut and thread up to 2" pipe; sweat and solder pipe; tack-weld steel pipe; cut steel pipe with torch; learn fitting techniques.
• Learn how to set fixtures and install trim.
• Acquire all required hand tools to perform your job.
• Maintain a professional appearance and attitude, and work effectively with co-workers and other subs.
