Under supervision, you will execute maintenance, repair or operation tasks across various installations and facilities at the Fair Grounds. Responsibilities include reading plans, locating pipes, cutting openings, assembling pipe fittings, and installing plumbing fixtures.

We are a premiere entertainment venue presenting thoroughbred & exotic animal races, slots, video poker and simulcasting year-round. Located in New Orleans, Fair Grounds operates a slot-machine gaming facility and 13 off-track betting parlors throughout southeast Louisiana.

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the repair and upkeep of the property including but not limited to barns, grand stand, office buildings, OTB parlor and grounds. Under the direct supervision of a higher level operation or maintenance employee, the employee performs a variety of tasks in the maintenance, repair or operation of various installations and facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Studies building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations.
• Inspects structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe.
• Locates and marks position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors.
• Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings.
• Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of metals, such as iron, steel, brass, and lead, and nonmetals, such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic.
• Fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking.
• Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dishwashers, and water softeners.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must be 21 years or older. Must have a Valid Driver’s License and able to obtain a Louisiana Racing License.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent; prior experience in facilities preferred. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several variables.
