Job summary

CoreCivic is seeking a Plumber to perform and oversee plumbing installations, repairs and maintenance in a secure facility setting. The role requires ensuring code compliance while coordinating work with other trades and supervising inmate workers as needed.

The ideal candidate has a Journeyman Plumbing License and at least two years of plumbing experience, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to work safely under site policies. Domestic travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Journeyman license plus 2 years of plumbing experience; or an Associate’s degree with 2 years of plumbing experience.
  • An additional 3 years of plumbing experience may substitute for license/education requirements.
  • Minimum age 18 and valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and coordinates all areas of plumbing within the facility.
  • Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures, equipment and systems.
  • Maintains high temperature water and high-pressure piping systems and equipment.
  • Installs and maintains gas lines on equipment.
  • Maintains fire extinguishers, hydrants, and sprinkler systems.
  • Maintains sanitary and storm sewers and reads pressure gauges for leaks.
  • Follows safety policies and EPA standards and coordinates with other trades as needed.
  • Domestic U.S. travel may be required.

The Plumber conducts and oversees plumbing installations, repairs, and maintenance. Performs a full range of plumbing work and applies knowledge of plumbing and building codes, trade standards and tools, and complies with company and contractual policies and procedures.

  • Oversees and coordinates all areas of plumbing within the facility. Assembles, installs, maintains and repairs pipes, fittings, equipment and fixtures. Uses a variety of hand tools and special equipment, such as mechanical and power drills, cutters, benders, pipe threaders and welders. Determines materials needed for repair work, prepares requisitions and monitors inventory.
  • Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures, equipment and plumbing systems such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, showers, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dishwashers, cooking kettles, disposals, drainage systems, grease traps, water softeners, water coolers, air conditioners and others as required.
  • Installs, modifies, maintains, and repairs new and existing high temperature water and high-pressure piping systems and equipment, such as steam heating, steam generating, flash and expansion tanks, condensate vacuum, and circulating pumps and radiators.
  • Installs, maintains and repairs gas lines on various equipment.
  • Installs, services and maintains fire extinguishers, hydrants, and sprinkler systems.
  • Installs, modifies, maintains and repairs hydraulic and pneumatic systems for the control and operation of water and air systems, processes and machinery.
  • Services and maintains both sanitary and storm sewers. Determines the layout, pitch, elevation, pressure reduction, expansion, and operation of various piping systems and equipment.
  • Fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking.
  • Performs related work as assigned. May assist other skilled trade's workers on projects requiring multiple trade specialty areas.
  • Provides for the proper supervision and tracking of inmates/residents assigned to the Maintenance Department. Escorts inmates/residents or coordinates the movement of inmates/residents to and from different areas.
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of standard operating records and reports, as required. Processes all work orders, reports, purchase requisitions and other documents in a timely manner.
  • Inspects for items that could be used as contraband, weapons or implements of escape by inmates/residents. Provides for the secure storage, proper use and/or safe disposal of tools, supplies and equipment. Cleans and maintains all tools in proper working order.
  • Completes work orders in accordance with company standards for workmanship and housekeeping, and in compliance with building codes, blueprints, manuals and/or other applicable procedures, standards or specifications.
  • Follows safety policies and regulations, and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards. Takes appropriate action in cases of serious and unusual incidents and emergencies.
  • Domestic U.S. travel may be required.
Qualifications
  • Graduate with High School diploma, GED certification or equivalent is required.
  • Possession of a Journeyman's Plumbing License and two years of plumbing experience is required or an Associate's degree in a related plumbing, building or maintenance trade and two years of plumbing experience is required.
  • An additional three years of experience may be substituted for the license or education requirement for a total of five years of plumbing experience
  • Minimum Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
