Job summary

Accredo Packaging in Sugar Land, TX is seeking a PLC Technician to support the reliability, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of production equipment and control systems. This role focuses on PLC-controlled equipment and related control systems, collaborating with Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance teams to minimize downtime and improve equipment performance.

The PLC Technician will work to ensure safety and quality compliance while actively supporting continuous improvement

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 10+ years of experience in manufacturing maintenance or equivalent military experience.
  • Experience with PLC programming, industrial automation, and control systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair PLC-controlled equipment and electrical systems.
  • Program, modify, and maintain PLC software, including ladder logic and structured text.
  • Install, configure, and support PLC hardware, drives, sensors, and networks.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance to improve reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Validate control system performance through testing and commissioning.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Maintenance on upgrades and improvements.
  • Maintain maintenance records and CMMS entries.
  • Ensure OSHA safety, GMPs, and company policies.

The PLC Technician is responsible for supporting the reliability, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of production equipment and control systems. This role provides electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and automation support for manufacturing operations, with primary responsibility for PLC-controlled equipment and related control systems. The PLC Technician works closely with Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance teams to minimize downtime, improve equipment performance, and support continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring compliance with safety and quality requirements.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair PLC-controlled equipment, electrical systems, and production machinery.
  • Program, modify, and maintain PLC software, including ladder logic, structured text, and other control system programming languages as required.
  • Install, configure, and support PLC hardware, drives, sensors, communication networks, and related control system components.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance activities to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Validate control system performance through testing, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and automation-related issues affecting production equipment.
  • Provide emergency and unscheduled repair support to minimize operational disruptions.
  • Analyze equipment failures, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, technical drawings, and equipment documentation.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Maintenance teams on equipment upgrades, automation projects, and process improvements.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, technical documentation, and work order information within the CMMS system.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements, safety procedures, GMPs, and company policies.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a manufacturing maintenance environment or equivalent military experience.
  • Maintenance certifications, licenses, or technical training preferred.
  • Experience with PLC programming, industrial automation, and manufacturing control systems.
  • Experience with CMMS systems preferred.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience with multi-layer extrusion equipment, particularly Windmöller & Hölscher (W&H) systems.
  • Experience with flexographic printing presses, particularly W&H equipment.
  • Experience with slitting equipment, including Kampf and Deacro systems.
  • Experience with LEMO wicketing equipment.
  • Experience with Totani pouch-making equipment.
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems, circuits, controls, and safety practices.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and hardware support.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to identify root causes of equipment failures and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with PLC software, industrial automation systems, robotics, vision systems, and related technologies preferred.
  • Forklift operating ability or willingness to obtain certification.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift, push, or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, moving equipment, and varying temperatures.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as required.
  • Ability to operate equipment such as forklifts, scissor lifts, and articulating boom lifts.
