Job summary

Hood Lumber, a Hood Industries division, seeks a PLC Technician for our Bogalusa, LA sawmill. You will troubleshoot, repair, program, and maintain PLCs and electrical systems to support safe, reliable mill operations.

Strong PLC programming and electrical background with knowledge of industrial equipment is required. This role offers growth within a safety‑driven, continuous improvement environment and requires teamwork across production, maintenance, and engineering.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of industrial PLC experience.
• Manufacturing experience; wood products preferred.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
• Able to read electrical schematics and blueprints.
• Willing to work any shift, holidays, weekends, and overtime.
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds and work in industrial environments.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair electrical machinery and control systems throughout the plant.
• Diagnose and resolve PLC, electrical, instrumentation, and process control issues.
• Interpret PLC logic and modify to restore or improve equipment performance.
• Implement and support new control systems and upgrades.
• Coordinate work activities with production and maintenance leadership to minimize downtime.
• Maintain critical backups for all computer systems and PLC programs.
• Set up and operate test equipment to evaluate system and component performance; document results.
• Build, calibrate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical instruments and testing equipment.
• Provide technical support before, during, and after construction or equipment installation projects.
• Complete work orders and documentation accurately and timely.
• Conduct inspections for quality control and assurance; report findings.
• Use precision tools to calibrate and adjust equipment.
• Maintain knowledge through training programs and OSHA/safety compliance.

Position at Hood Lumber

Hood Lumber, a division of Hood Industries, Inc., is seeking a PLC Technician to join our Bogalusa, LA sawmill. Our facility employs approximately 150 team members and plays a key role in producing high-quality southern pine lumber.

In this role, you will troubleshoot, repair, program, and maintain PLCs, electrical systems, and industrial equipment to support safe, reliable, and efficient mill operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in PLC programming, automation, electrical systems, and industrial equipment.

Key Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair electrical machinery and control systems throughout the plant, including sawmill, planer, boiler, and kiln operations.
• Diagnose and resolve PLC, electrical, instrumentation, and process control issues.

• Implement and support new control systems and upgrades to improve equipment efficiency and reliability.
• Coordinate work activities with production and maintenance leadership to minimize downtime.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or technical certification is a plus.
• 2+ years of industrial PLC experience.
• Manufacturing experience required; wood products experience preferred.
• Strong experience with Allen-Bradley ControlLogix and CompactLogix.
• Knowledge of industrial electricity, motor controls, VFDs, and AC drives.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a team environment and collaborate effectively across production, maintenance, and engineering.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and blueprints.
• Willing and able to work any shift, holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed.
• Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, and work in industrial environments for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work at heights or in confined spaces, and safely use tools and equipment.
• Ability to work in hot, dusty, noisy conditions and wear required PPE.

Pay Range

$27.87 - $36.07
