Job summary

CertainTeed – Claremont, NC is hiring a Night Shift PLC Maintenance Technician with a strong industrial background. You will troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and improve mechanical systems to boost uptime and efficiency.

The role requires 5–10 years in maintenance, a high school diploma or beyond, and experience with automated control systems. Weekend work is part of the schedule, and welding/mechanical testing skills are beneficial.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or GED.
• AS or AAS Electrical/Electronic Technology Degree, Mechatronics, Industrial Technology or AS or BS in Electronics Engineering Technology or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
• Five to ten (5-10) years of professional experience and knowledge in maintenance disciplines, such as automated control systems, safety qualifications, and professional industrial maintenance in a manufacturing environment.
• Requires adaptability, methodical/analytical problem-solving skills, and employee leadership skills with the ability to effectively apply these skills in a manufacturing facility.
• Team player with good interpersonal skills and written and verbal communication skills to work effectively in corporate, manufacturing, and team environments.
• Basic typing skills and proficiency in the utilization of Microsoft Office, including Excel and or Office.
• Must be able to work every other weekend.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and improve mechanical systems to improve uptime and efficiency.
• Operate and monitor machinery, electrical, and mechanical equipment; follow manuals and specs; troubleshoot malfunctions.
• Locate sources of problems by observing devices; use precision instruments.
• Remove defective parts; dismantle devices; use hoists, cranes and tools.
• Inspect parts with calipers, micrometers, and other measuring tools.
• Adjust devices and control instruments using hand tools and levels.
• Report and document maintenance activities; monitor downtime and performance.
• Fabricate repair parts using machine shop equipment and keep inventories stocked.
• Maintain safe, clean working environment and follow procedures and regulations.
• Create/update schematics, wiring diagrams, maintenance logs, and SOPs.

CertainTeed – Claremont, NC is hiring a Night Shift PLC Maintenance Technician with a strong industrial background.

Shift: 12-hr. Night Shift (2-2-3 rotating every other weekend)

POSITION SUMMARY

In alignment with the company vision, mission, values, and objectives, the technician will troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and improve mechanical systems with the intent of improving uptime and efficiency.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Ensures operation of machinery, electrical, and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.
• Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical and electrical devices in operation; listening for problems; and using precision measuring and testing instruments.
• Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; and examining the form and texture of parts.
• Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; using rules, calipers, micrometers, and/or other measuring instruments.
• Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
• Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; and monitoring compliance.
• Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.
• Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.
• Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
• Provides mechanical and electrical maintenance information by answering questions and requests.
• Prepares mechanical and electrical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
• Troubleshoot/Diagnose 3-phase, up to 480V causes of electrical or mechanical malfunction or failure of operation equipment, utilizing standard electronic test equipment while referencing technical drawings and documents
• Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; and establishing personal networks.
• Perform preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance functions.
• Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.

• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
• Documents time through work orders and creates notifications within the SAP CMMS system
• Uses Quick Kaizens to help with completing root cause analysis
• Helps to create BOMs for equipment by creating equipment ledgers
• Create and update documentation of all types: schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, assembly diagrams, maintenance logs, standard operating procedures, and instruction manuals, to keep documentation accurate, available, and ready for use as needed.

PREFERRED OR DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 2-year technical degree in Industrial Maintenance or Industrial Systems Technology.
• ARC Flash Training
• Familiarity with Lean/WCM principles and practices.
• Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems
• Electrical Skills focused on, but not limited to:
• Controls: VFD, Solenoids, Servos
• Power Distribution
• Field Devices: Limit Switches, Proximity Switches, Level Probes
• AC Motors & VFD
• Diagnostic Tools: Megger Meter, Multi-Meter, Infrared Thermometer, Thermal Imager
• Proficient in Rigid conduit bending and installation
