PLC Technician (Controls & Automation Technician)
Base Pay Range
$30.00/hr – $45.00/hr
Responsibilities
- Provides input for managing the controls and automation systems testing, quality control, data retrieval and training for packaging and processing equipment.
- Assists in managing the controls and automation interface, testing, quality control, data retrieval, and training for all packaging and processing equipment.
- Assists with the development and modification of PLC & HMI programs.
- Provides project engineering support to process areas.
- Provides controls support for the manufacturing facility and assists plant mechanics in troubleshooting.
- Ensures documentation for control/electrical system and documents change‑control procedures.
- Assists with the development and management of controls‑related capital projects.
- Contributes to the determination and maintainability of new process control systems and manages process controls change‑control procedures for existing equipment.
- Works around moving machines – mixers, conveyor belts, and forklifts.
Qualifications
All candidates should have an understanding of automated industrial machinery, including motors, servos, pumps, drives, relays, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, packaging, conveyance, liquid and powder manufacturing equipment and processes, PLC troubleshooting, electrical and mechanical drawings, installation and troubleshooting of basic three‑phase motor control circuits, breakdown analysis, and the following:
- Ability to troubleshoot and maintain Allen‑Bradley MicroLogix and ControlLogix hardware
- Perform Allen‑Bradley PLC programming using RSLogix5, RSLogix500, RSLogix5000 or equivalent
- Implement and troubleshoot industrial communication networks including Ethernet, Allen‑Bradley Remote I/O, and DeviceNet
- Read electrical schematics, P&ID’s, and PFD’s
- Perform PID loop tuning and instrument calibration
- Knowledge of programming languages relevant to PLCs
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical control systems, PLCs, networking, and HMI systems
- Initiate and develop control system modifications and new projects to improve plant performance and reliability
- General knowledge of the National Electrical Code
- Knowledge of wiring, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic systems
- Reading blueprints and schematics
