Job summary

STG is seeking a PLC Controls Engineer for a major automotive client in Michigan. You will develop and implement improvements to control systems and equipment using plant data, lead problem solving, and troubleshoot to reduce downtime.

Successful candidates will have 5+ years of related controls experience, a Bachelor's degree in engineering, and hands-on experience with Siemens, Rexroth, and Allen-Bradley PLCs.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of related controls experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership in FORD+ behaviors and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with UAW maintenance, vendors, and process team members.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • PLC experience with Siemens, Rexroth, and Allen-Bradley.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement improvements to control systems using FIS data.
  • Lead problem solving to resolve equipment performance issues.
  • Coordinate root-cause analysis and validation of fixes.
  • Assist in training manufacturing personnel and plant electricians.
  • Integrate controls into IT systems such as FIS, IIoT, QWX, and QTS.
  • Troubleshoot machinery, robots, automation, and controls for downtime.
  • Use FIS plant monitoring software to review cycle times.
  • Review and coordinate project installations.
  • Reprogram equipment for engineering changes and improvements.
  • Maintain program backups for machinery and automation.
  • Program new installations of automation, machinery, and robots.
  • Review risk assessments as part of a team evaluating equipment safety.

Position Description:
  • Develop and implement improvements to control systems and equipment using Factory Information Systems (FIS) data
  • Lead problem solving in resolving equipment performance issues
  • Lead trouble shooting; coordinate resources to find root cause and fixes, manage and breakdown problems into items that can be validated
  • Assist in the training of manufacturing personnel and plant electricians
  • Assist in integration of controls into IT systems like Factory Information Systems (FIS), Error Proofing, QWX, IIoT, and QTS.
  • Troubleshoot machinery, robot, automation, and controls issues and downtime
  • Use FIS plant monitoring software to review cycle times of equipment
  • Review and coordinate project installations
  • Reprogram equipment for engineering changes and improvements
  • Maintain program backups for machinery and automation
  • Program new installations of automation, machinery, material handling, and robots
  • Review risk assessments as part of a team evaluating equipment safety
Skills Required:

Error proofing, Programmable Logic Controllers, Troubleshooting (Problem Solving), Good Manufacturing Practices

Skills Preferred:

Lean Manufacturing, Electrical, Siemens, Robotics, Automation

Experience Required:
  • Experience: 5+ yrs of related Controls experience
  • Successful candidate must be able to demonstrate leadership in FORD+ (leadership) behaviors combined with outstanding interpersonal, teambuilding, and communication skills
  • Ability to work with UAW maintenance, Vendors, and other Process Team Members when required
  • Microsoft Suite familiarity (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • PLC Controller experience (Siemens, Rexroth, Allan Bradley)
Experience Preferred:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience
  • Familiar with UL508A requirements and NFPA79
  • Siemens Step 7 and TIA Portal programming and troubleshooting
  • Siemens power line and solution line configuration and programming
  • Machining and automation equipment controls troubleshooting experience
