Trident Seafoods is the largest vertically integrated seafood harvesting and processing company in North America. Trident is a privately held, 100 percent USA-owned company with primary seafood processing operations and fleet support in twelve Alaska communities. Trident’s global operations produce finished wild Alaska seafood products in 6 countries and its sales teams serve customers in over 50 countries. Trident employs approximately 9,000 people worldwide each year and partners with over 5,400 independent fishermen and crewmembers. Species harvested and processed by Trident include virtually every commercial species of salmon, whitefish, and crab harvested in the North Pacific and Alaska. The global supply chain also includes cultured and wild species from a network of trusted sources worldwide.

Summary: The PLC Controls Technician will provide support and troubleshooting for Trident’s new and existing automated seafood processing equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Inspects existing automated equipment and assesses performance in relation to standards.
  2. Troubleshoots issues and insufficiencies in performance and guides or performs adjustments.
  3. Advises management regarding equipment performance, and suggestions for equipment and process improvements.
  4. Confers with vendors, supervisor, and other technical workers to assist with equipment installation, maintenance and repair techniques.
  5. Enters information into computer to copy program or to draw, modify, or store schematics, applying knowledge of software package used.
  6. Assists with implementation and/or monitoring of SOP's and ensures location staff is trained to standards.
  7. Converses with equipment operators to ascertain whether mechanical or human error contributed to equipment breakdown.
  8. Studies blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications to determine installation procedures.
  9. Operates equipment to demonstrate use of equipment and to analyze malfunctions.
  10. Determines feasibility of using standardized equipment, and develops specifications for equipment required to perform additional functions.
  11. Acquires working knowledge of Trident’s warehouse management system (EAM) including the requisition and asset management experience.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Acquires knowledge of Trident’s Environmental and Safety Policies by completing required training programs and performing designated work activities in accordance with training and procedures/work instructions.
  2. Notifies designated personnel of any environmental or safety incidents or risks not previously documented, in accordance with Environmental Awareness and/or safety trainings.

This is a nonexempt position with an hourly rate of $28.89 to $41.89.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. A minimum of 2 years’ experience with industrial automation troubleshooting and repair. Prior experience working with food processing equipment.
  2. Experience with Allen Bradley PLCS (500, 5000, Studio, Factory Talk View HMI, Power Flex)
  3. Ability to troubleshoot and calibrate process measurement equipment
  4. Experience calibrating weighing systems
  5. Ability to adapt current PLC systems to changing plant needs
  6. Basic network troubleshooting (Ethernet IP, Modbus TCP IP)

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. One year certificate in maintenance related field from college or technical school or equivalent combination of education and experience
  2. Prefer 5 years’ experience with industrial automation troubleshooting and repair of food processing equipment.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is regularly required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, and talk or hear.

The employee moves objects:

  1. regularly up to 5 pounds
  2. frequently up to 25 pounds
  3. occasionally up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include near/close vision, distant vision, peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to distinguish colors of electrical wires or components.
