Job summary

Sylvania is seeking a Recess Supervisor to serve the ER9 District (Easton, Redding and Region 9). This part-time, 10-month position supports a dynamic school community by supervising students during recess, ensuring safety and respectful behavior.

You will monitor playground activities, reinforce rules, assist with transitions, and collaborate with staff to promote inclusion and physical activity. Schedule is 3.75 hours per day; compensation follows the ER9 contract.

Qualifications

• Empathy and calm under pressure in challenging situations.
• Experience working with children in school or youth settings.
• Ability to supervise outdoor environments and large groups.
• Recognize and respond to safety concerns and emergencies.
• Dependable, punctual and able to follow directions.
• Able to stay active during supervision in varying weather.
• High school diploma preferred.
• Knowledge of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Actively supervise students during recess to ensure a safe environment.
• Monitor playground activities and promote safe play.
• Enforce school rules and promote empathy and responsibility.
• Resolve minor conflicts using positive behavior strategies.
• Refer serious issues to appropriate staff.
• Maintain awareness of all students by circulating areas.
• Ensure safe use of playground equipment.
• Assist with transitions between classrooms and recess.
• Communicate effectively with students and staff.
• Collaborate to support a positive recess culture encouraging cooperation, inclusion, and physical activity.
