Job summary

AeroVironment seeks a Platform Software Engineer to join our Sunrise, FL team. You will implement low level Linux OS software in collaboration with hardware prototypes and lab test equipment, using Linux/Unix C and scripting to develop and verify algorithms.

Responsibilities include designing, coding, and testing efficient software, working with cross‑functional teams, and owning tasks to completion while ensuring performance and maintainability. ITAR/EAR compliance applies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical field and 2–10+ years related experience or equivalent
  • Strong C knowledge and Linux development experience
  • Experience with multithreaded environments and scripting languages
  • Familiarity with I2C/SPI and ARM development
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance

AV is expanding and we're looking for a Platform Software Engineers to join our team! Our office is located in Sunrise, FL where we provide highly competitive satellite, Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular technologies and services to our government, law enforcement, and commercial customers. The Platform Software Engineer will implement low level Linux OS software working directly with hardware prototypes and associated lab test equipment. The successful will utilize their Linux/Unix C code and scripting language experience to implement and verify software algorithms.

Position Responsibilities
  • Implement low level Linux OS software working closely with hardware prototypes.
  • Implement and verify basic software algorithms.
  • Perform basic code design tasks.
  • Create efficient code, working closely with other team members.
  • Take ownership of moderately complex tasks and drive them to completion.
  • Understand and execute test strategies to deliver quality software.
  • Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable code.
  • Ensure the best possible performance, quality, and maintainability of code.
  • Identify bottlenecks and bugs, and devise solutions to these problems.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)
  • Bachelor's Degree (BS/CE or BS/CS) from four-year college or university, and 2 - 10+ years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Computer skills required: (Text Editor; Command-Line source code Compiler; Code Development Software; Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Good knowledge of C.
  • Familiar with multithreaded environments.
  • Ability to develop software targeting Linux environment (not just using a Linux environment for development).
  • Networking experience at the programming level.
  • Familiarity with chip level busses (I2C, SPI, etc.)
  • Any ARM development experience - Raspberry PI, TI OMAP, etc.
  • Any scripting experience - Python, AWK, Lua, Shell, etc.
  • Source Code Control
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US Security Clearance.

  • Advanced degree is preferred.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to work in an office environment (Constant)
  • Required to stand and sit for long periods; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard (Frequent)

The salary range for this role is:

$85,000.00 - $145,000.00 annual

AeroVironment considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the location, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, education/training, and key skills.

ITAR Requirement

This position requires access to information that is subject to compliance with the International Traffic Arms Regulations (“ITAR”) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (“EAR”). In order to comply with the requirements of the ITAR and/or the EAR, applicants will be asked to provide specific documentation to verify U.S. person status under the ITAR and the EAR.
