Job summary

Kforce has a client in New York, NY seeking a Platform Engineer to design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs for enterprise platform capabilities and sandbox environments. You will build cloud-native applications primarily in Python, with some Java, and deploy containerized workloads on Amazon EKS (Kubernetes).

Focus on security, observability, and scalable reliability within an Agile team. The role requires a Bachelor's degree and 3+ years in software/platform/cloud engineering,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Approximately 3+ years of software engineering, platform engineering, or cloud engineering experience.
• Strong development experience with Python.
• Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and backend services.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Amazon EKS.
• Experience developing and deploying containerized applications using Docker.
• Experience leveraging GitHub for source control, branching strategies, pull requests, and code reviews.
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
• Working knowledge of Java and experience supporting Java-based services.
• Familiarity with AWS cloud services and cloud-native architectural patterns.
• Understanding of distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architecture concepts.
• Strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently within established architectural guardrails.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs supporting enterprise platform capabilities and sandbox environments.
• Build cloud-native applications primarily in Python, with occasional development in Java.
• Develop and deploy containerized workloads on Amazon EKS (Kubernetes).
• Create and maintain connectivity patterns and integration services for approved enterprise data sources.
• Implement secure authentication and authorization mechanisms, integrating with enterprise identity platforms and access controls.
• Build observability capabilities including logging, monitoring, tracing, alerting, and operational dashboards.
• Collaborate with architects and senior engineers to review designs, recommend improvements, and ensure alignment with enterprise standards.
• Contribute to platform reliability, scalability, security, and performance optimization efforts.
• As a Platform Engineer, you will participate in code reviews and uphold engineering best practices, testing standards, and development guidelines.
• Troubleshoot production issues and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain technical documentation, deployment procedures, and integration specifications.
• Work within Agile delivery teams while operating with a high degree of ownership and accountability.
