Akkodis is seeking a CDN Platform Engineer for one of our clients in Dearborn, Michigan.
Rate Range: $50.00/hour to $55.00/hour; the rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.
The Content Delivery Network (CDN) Platform Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, optimization, and operational reliability of enterprise CDN platforms supporting large-scale, customer-facing digital applications. This role ensures secure, high-performing, and highly available content delivery through the management of CDN configurations, caching strategies, traffic routing, and edge security controls across globally distributed environments.
While hybrid candidates who can work 1 day per week in the office are preferred, fully remote candidates will also be considered. The role offers an opportunity to drive strategic transformation efforts, establish engineering best practices, and shape the future of the organization's global content delivery platform.

Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical owner and subject matter expert (SME) for enterprise CDN technologies, partnering with application, network, infrastructure, and security teams to design and implement scalable content delivery solutions.
- Lead the technical transformation of the organization's global content delivery strategy and CDN Center of Excellence (CoE), driving the migration from legacy vendor-managed platforms to a modern automated Multi-CDN ecosystem.
- Design, deploy, configure, and maintain CDN environments across Akamai, Cloudflare, Fastly, Google Media CDN, and GCP Cloud CDN to support diverse application workloads and business requirements.
- Build self-service capabilities within the internal developer portal (Backstage), enabling application teams to provision CDN services, manage cache operations, and consume platform services through automated workflows and APIs.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform and Ansible to automate CDN provisioning, origin integrations, caching policies, WAF configurations, and bot management controls.
- Build and support GitOps-based CI/CD pipelines using Tekton and GitHub Actions to streamline deployments and improve operational consistency.
- Publish and secure management APIs through Apigee, ensuring compliance with OpenAPI standards and security best practices, including 42Crunch validation and scanning.
- Lead technical root cause analysis (RCA) for critical production incidents, participate in on-call rotations, and develop automated remediation solutions to minimize recurring issues.
- Maintain high platform reliability through proactive monitoring, incident prevention, alerting strategies, and the establishment of CDN-specific SLAs and SLOs.
- Design and implement observability solutions using Splunk, Dynatrace, and Grafana to provide real-time visibility into traffic performance, security events, cache efficiency, and CDN offload metrics.
- Evaluate emerging CDN technologies, edge computing capabilities, and performance optimization techniques to improve scalability, security, and customer experience.
- Create technical documentation, operational playbooks, standards, and training materials while mentoring engineers and promoting platform best practices across the organization.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on experience managing enterprise CDN platforms, including Akamai, Cloudflare, Fastly, Google Cloud CDN, or equivalent solutions.
- Strong expertise in Multi-CDN strategy, implementation, and operational management.
- Deep understanding of DNS, Global Traffic Management (GTM), CNAME chaining, HTTP/2, HTTP/3, TLS/SSL, caching policies and headers, edge computing, and web performance optimization.
- Experience developing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and Ansible in production environments.
- Strong programming and automation skills using Python, Java, and/or modern scripting languages.
- Experience building self-service platform capabilities with Backstage, REST APIs, and modern web technologies including React.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD and GitOps methodologies using Tekton, GitHub Actions, or comparable automation tools.
- Experience implementing API management and security solutions using Apigee, OpenAPI standards, and API security scanning tools.
- Expertise in monitoring, observability, and telemetry platforms such as Splunk, Dynatrace, and Grafana.
- Proven ability to lead incident response, root cause analysis, and operational excellence initiatives in large-scale production environments.
- Strong communication, collaboration, documentation, and mentoring skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including Cloud Run, Transcoder API, GKE/OpenShift, and related cloud-native services.
- Experience integrating CDN platforms with Adobe Experience Manager (AEM/AEMaaCS) or other enterprise content management systems.
- Knowledge of web application security, WAF management, bot mitigation, and edge security controls.
- Experience designing and implementing developer platform capabilities and internal engineering portals.
- Previous experience leading large-scale global CDN migrations and transformation initiatives.
- SaaS platform experience and familiarity with enterprise digital content delivery architectures.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
