Job summary

GreatAmerica is seeking an entry-level Platform Engineer in Texas to learn and support our platform stack, automation, and operations under guidance from experienced engineers. You will contribute to provisioning, configuration, upgrades, and monitoring while building foundational technical knowledge and business context.

You will gain exposure to cloud platforms, CI/CD, IaC, containers, scripting, and monitoring, collaborating across teams to improve platform reliability and scalability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in computer science, info systems, or related field.
• 0-3 years of relevant engineering experience.

Responsibilities

• Learn and support platforms, tools, and technologies under guidance.
• Assist with provisioning, configuration, upgrades, patching, and monitoring of platforms.
• Help with automation and continuous improvement for reliability and efficiency.
• Monitor platform health and follow procedures to identify and escalate issues.
• Support incident, problem, and change management processes.
• Follow security, compliance, and operational controls.
• Document configurations and solutions using established standards.
• Collaborate with engineers, technology teams, vendors, and partners on platform initiatives.
• Understand how platform services support business operations.
• Identify and escalate issues from upstream systems or dependencies.

We Are Looking to Add a Key Member to Our Technology Team!

The Platform Engineer is an entry-level engineering role responsible for learning and supporting the platforms, tools, and technologies that enable GreatAmerica's business and technology operations. Working under the guidance of experienced engineers, this role contributes to platform maintenance, monitoring, automation, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement activities while building foundational technical, operational, and business knowledge.

As a Platform Engineer, You Will

• Assist in the implementation, maintenance, and support of platform capabilities under guidance.
• Support platform lifecycle activities including provisioning, configuration, upgrades, patching, and monitoring.
• Assist with automation and continuous improvement initiatives to improve platform reliability, scalability, and efficiency.
• Monitor platform health and follow established procedures to identify, troubleshoot, resolve, or escalation issues.
• Support incident, problem, and change management processes.
• Follow established security, compliance, and operational controls.
• Document work activities, processes, configurations, and solutions using established standards.
• Collaborate with engineers, technology teams, vendors, and business partners to support platform-related initiatives.
• Build understanding of how platform services support business operations and technology outcomes.
• Learn to identify and escalation issues originating from upstream systems, vendors, integrations, or dependencies.

Preferred Skills

To be successful in this role you will need:

• Exposure to a major cloud platform (Azure/AWS/GCP)
• Familiarity with CI/CD concepts and IT service management practices (Jira/ServiceNow)
• Familiarity with source control tools (GitHub/Bitbucket/Azure DevOps) and basic Git workflows
• Exposure to infrastructure-as-code concepts (Terraform)
• Familiarity with JSON/YAML for configuration and templating
• Exposure to containerization (Docker); familiarity with Kubernetes concepts (Pods, Deployments) a plus
• Exposure to Linux fundamentals (command line, file systems, basic administration)
• Exposure to basic scripting (Bash/Python) for everyday automation tasksBasic programming or scripting ability (.NET/Java/JavaScript/TypeScript)Exposure to networking fundamentals (DNS, HTTP/S, load balancing, basic firewall/security group concepts)Basic awareness of how monitoring and alerting can surface failures originating outside the platform being monitoredInterest in financial services, banking, or regulated-industry technology
