Job summary

Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield seeks an experienced technology leader to drive design and governance for complex platforms in a large enterprise. You will lead technical designs, collaborate with Solution Architects, and ensure security, performance, and alignment with standards.

You will mentor teams, guide architecture decisions, engage stakeholders, and help deliver scalable, business-aligned solutions across domains.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or direct and applicable work experience.
• Minimum 7 years of experience across development and IT infrastructure.
• Experience designing technical architecture and guiding complex platforms.
• Proven ability to coach/mentor others and lead projects.
• Strong communication skills, verbal and written, with stakeholders.
• Experience with multiple tech stacks: Angular, NodeJS, TypeScript, C#, .NET, Java, SQL.
• Adaptability to major changes and informal leadership experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical designs for highly integrated complex application platforms, optimizing security and performance while aligning with standards.
• Consult with Solution Architects and project teams on design deliverables and drive improvements.
• Oversee planning, development, and estimation of technical solutions with cross-team collaboration.
• Collaborate with Lead Architect, analysts, and stakeholders on process improvements.
• Advise business stakeholders to ensure architectures meet business expectations.
• Oversee design of supported solutions, including vendor selection, integration, and administration.
• Uphold architecture governance and standards, providing design specs for IT policies and security.
• Provide training and mentorship on technical design and quality assurance.
• Build relationships to align technical designs with business needs and customer service.
• Apply industry best practices and research emerging technologies for platform designs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications - Must have:

• Bachelor's Degree or direct and applicable work experience
• Minimum 7 years of experience to include any combination of the following:
• Development Experience: Angular 2 (or newer), NodeJS (or newer), TypeScript, C#, .NET, Java, SQL
• Providing innovative solutions to complex issues.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in IT infrastructure, architecture design, operations
• Proven ability to adapt when experiencing major changes in work tasks or work environment.
• Informal leadership experience typically gained through leading projects.
• Demonstrated experience coaching/mentoring others by providing guidance and feedback to help employees strengthen their knowledge and skills.
• Proven experience with designing technical architecture and keeping abreast of existing and emerging technologies.
• Experience consulting with stakeholders to understand needs and provide advice and counsel.
• Demonstrated problem‑solving/troubleshooting skills, including identifying root causes, generating solutions, and evaluating outcomes.
• Demonstrated communication skills: verbal and written – articulate, clear, concise, and effective in presentations and written communication.

Preferred Qualifications - Great to have:

• Bachelor’s degree
• Experience working within an Agile team environment
• Leadership experience from project and informal leadership that demonstrates core competencies
• Experience partnering with global staffing vendors to deliver projects.
• Proficiency in HROR (highly preferred)

What you will do:

• Lead technical designs for highly integrated complex application platforms, optimizing security, information leverage and re‑use, integration, performance, and availability while ensuring compliance with architecture standards.
• Consult with Solution Architects and project teams on design deliverables for application platforms, collaborating to implement effective technology solutions and drive improvement initiatives.
• Oversee planning, development, and estimation of technical solutions and collaborate with other technical teams for expert insight.
• Collaborate with Lead Architect, business systems analysts, and stakeholders to provide insight on process improvements.
• Consult with business stakeholders for technical planning to ensure architectures align with business expectations.
• Oversee, review, and provide technical guidance on the design of supported solutions, including vendor selection, integration, implementation, and administration.
• Adhere to and uphold Wellmark’s architecture governance and technical standards, providing design specifications for approval and guidance on IT policies, security, and infrastructure.
• Provide training and mentorship on technical design and solution implementation, including review and quality assurance.
• Build strong relationships and business acumen to align technical designs with business needs and deliver exceptional customer service.
• Develop and apply industry best practice technology, design, and methodology approaches for platform‑specific technical designs, researching and recommending emerging technologies and tools.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
