Job summary

Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield is seeking a Platform Engineer to lead technical design efforts for highly integrated platforms. You will optimize security, performance and availability while ensuring adherence to architecture standards and governance.

You will mentor teams, collaborate with Solution Architects, and research emerging technologies to add value across the organization. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are required.

As a Platform Engineer, you will lead technical design efforts in collaboration with Solution Architects for highly integrated/complex application platforms. You will optimize security, information and system performance/availability, ensuring solutions developed adhere to architecture standards. You will serve as a subject‑matter expert and resource for development and project teams, consult on business process improvements, and provide guidance for IT policies, procedures, tools, security and infrastructure. You will research and recommend emerging technologies and tools that add value to the organization.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or direct and applicable work experience
• Minimum 7 years of experience to include any combination of the following:
• Development Experience: (Ex: Angular 2 (or newer), NodeJS (or newer), TypeScript, C#, .NET, Java, SQL)
• Providing innovative solutions to complex issues.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in IT infrastructure, architecture design, operations
• Proven ability to adapt when experiencing major changes in work tasks or work environment.
• Informal leadership experience typically gained through leading projects.
• Demonstrated experience coaching/mentoring others by providing guidance and feedback to help an employee or groups of employees strengthen their knowledge and skills to accomplish a task or solve a problem.
• Proven experience with designing technical architecture and keeping abreast of existing and emerging technologies.
• Experiencing consulting with stakeholders to understand needs with the intention of providing advice and counsel. Also interacting appropriately with others to guide individuals or groups to accomplish work, reach consensus or take action.
• Demonstrated experience in problem solving/troubleshooting skills (conceptual, technical, IT) – Breaks down problems and identifies all facets, including hidden or tricky aspects, to find root‑cause, generates a range of solutions and courses of action with benefits, costs, and risks, and tests proposed solutions against reality before proceeding.
• Demonstrated communication skills: verbal and written – Articulate; communicates information/concepts clearly and concisely to individuals or groups; delivers presentations suited to stakeholder/audience needs; listens and responds appropriately to others.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree
• Experience working within an Agile team environment
• Leadership typically gained through a combination of project and informal leadership that demonstrates competencies
• Experience partnering with global staffing vendors to deliver projects.
• Proficiency in HROR highly preferred

What you will do

• Lead the technical designs for highly integrated complex application platforms to optimize security, information leverage and re‑use, integration, performance, and availability and ensure solutions adhere and align to architecture standards.
• Consult with Solution Architects and project teams in the creation and documentation of design deliverables for application platforms; collaborate with Lead Architects to design and implement effective technology solutions using innovative business and technology processes.
• Oversee and lead planning, development, and estimation of technical solutions; collaborate with other technical teams to provide subject‑matter expertise and insights.
• Collaborate with Lead Architect, business systems analyst and other stakeholders to provide insight and direction regarding process improvements.
• Consult with business stakeholders regarding technical planning to ensure architectures are developed in alignment with business expectations.
• Oversee, review, and provide technical guidance on the design efforts of Wellmark’s supported solutions, including vendor evaluation, integration, design, implementation and administration.
• Adhere to and be held accountable for Wellmark’s architecture governance standards and technical standards; provide design specifications to governing boards for approval and guidance on IT policies, security and infrastructure.
• Provide training and mentorship regarding technical design and solution implementation; conduct reviews and quality assurance.
• Build strong relationships and business acumen to ensure technical designs align with business needs; provide exceptional customer service and solutions.
• Develop and apply industry best‑practice technology, design and methodology approaches; research and recommend emerging technologies and tools that add value to the organization.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
