Graywolf is seeking Plate Welders (TIG) for a LaPorte, TX project (anticipated until end of November 2025).

Summary:

A plate welder specializes in joining thick steel plates, typically for tanks, vessels, and large structures.

Essential Duties:

• Welding safely around construction hazards.
• Using hand, electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic tools safely.
• Reading and understanding blueprints, plans, and specifications to make competent decisions.
• Visualizing objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings.
• Securing components using geometry, metal properties, and welding techniques.
• Bolting, clamping, and tack welding parts for assembly.
• Preparing materials through cutting or grinding.
• Setting up materials and equipment for welding, including filet and groove welding.
• Welding with arc, gas shielded, self-shielded, or gas welding equipment.
• Repairing products by dismantling, straightening, and reshaping.
• Reassembling parts with cutting torches, presses, and hand tools.

Weld Test Details:

• 3-position / 1g, 2g, 3g, 3-position / ½” thick carbon steel plates.
• Welding in horizontal, uphill vertical, and overhead positions simultaneously.
• Using .045" 70 Series flux-cored wire.
• Only stringer weld passes are permitted on ½” thick carbon steel plates.

Qualifications:

• Minimum three (3) years of heavy industrial welding experience with FCAW on steel plates.
• Experience in TIG welding may require additional testing, especially for Inconel liner.
• Completion of company and/or client welding certifications.
• Owns necessary tools and a locking toolbox.
• Ability to pass all pre-hire requirements.

Physical/Site Requirements:

• Lift and carry items weighing up to 45 pounds.
• Navigate confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
• Work shifts up to 12 hours in varying outdoor conditions.
• Climb and balance on steel frameworks, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
• Wear PPE including footwear and prescription safety glasses or eye shields.
