Summary:

A plate welder specializes in joining thick steel plates, often for tanks, vessels, and large structures.

Essential Duties:

• Ensure welding safety by working safely around construction hazards.
• Operate hand, electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic tools safely.
• Read and interpret blueprints, plans, isometrics, arrangements, specifications, erection manuals, and details to make informed decisions.
• Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings.
• Secure components using knowledge of geometry, metal properties, weld shrinkage, and welding techniques.
• Bolt, clamp, and tack weld parts to position for welding.
• Prepare materials by cutting or grinding with pipe cutters, hammers, chisels, torches, or grinders.
• Set up materials in stands, racks, hoists, etc., for filet and groove welding.
• Operate welding equipment such as arc, gas-shielded arc, self-shielded arc, or gas welding tools.
• Repair products by dismantling, straightening, and reshaping.
• Reassemble parts using cutting torches, straightening presses, and hand tools.

Weld Test Details:

• Perform 3-position / 1g, 2g, and 3g welding on ½” thick carbon steel plates.
• Welding positions include horizontal, uphill vertical, and overhead simultaneously.
