Job summary

OKAY Industries in New Britain, CT, seeks a Plastic Engineer to lead and manage new mold builds, process development, improvements, and the associated quality systems for medical molding. You will report directly to the Director of Applications Development.

The role focuses on creating robust molding processes using DOEs, ensuring molds are efficient and maintainable, and resolving production issues to support a world-class molding operation for AVNA.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in molding.
  • Molding process development.
  • Molded medical component qualifications.
  • Experience with machine automation is preferred.
  • BS in Plastic Engineering or Mechanical Engineering preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead new program launches with molded components, including protocols and process documents.
  • Develop robust molding processes through DOEs.
  • Ensure new molds are efficient, capable, and maintainable for long-term production.
  • Resolve production issues as they occur.
  • Drive for total customer satisfaction, both internal and external.
  • Monitor performance by measuring and analyzing results/variances and initiate corrective actions.
  • Seek to understand all facets of the manufacturing process before implementing change.
  • Create plans that monitor and understand success post-implementation.

Job description

Position

Plastic Engineer, New Britain, CT. Responsible for leading and managing new mold builds, process development, improvements, and the associated technological and quality systems for medical molding. Key to enabling AVNA to have a world‑class molding operation. Reports directly to the Director of Applications Development.

Key Goals

Become a trusted and respected leader. Achieve the system development performance goals on the AVNA Report Card (Efficiency, Cost savings and continuous improvement), assigned objectives related to AVNA strategy, and work with the NPD team and project management to successfully execute and launch new programs, strategies and systems.

Responsibilities
  • Lead new program launches with molded components, particularly with the development and execution of protocols, work process instructions, SIIP's and any additional technical documents.
  • Develop robust molding processes through the use of DOEs.
  • Ensure that new molds are efficient, capable, and maintainable for long‑term production.
  • Resolve production issues as they occur.
  • Make team members and others better. Leads by example.
  • Drive for total customer satisfaction, both internal and external.
  • Monitor performance by measuring and analyzing results/variances (productivity, quality, customer service); initiate corrective actions and minimize the impact of variation.
  • Seek to understand all facets of the manufacturing process before implementing change.
  • Create plans that allow the monitoring and understanding of success post‑implementation.
