Salary Range: $37.00 To $41.00 Annually

POSITION SUMMARY:

stalls and repairs brick, tile, stone, plaster, lathing and concrete on the interior and exterior portions of buildings, apartments, and work facilities. Paints interior and exterior surfaces including apartments and common areas. Tasks will be performed on WHA properties and developments and select properties outside of the WHA portfolio.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Plasters walls and ceilings by mixing plaster or stucco and then applying smooth mixtures with tools such as floats, trowels, and straight edges.
  • Performs masonry alterations and repairs of surfaces built of a variety of materials, such as brick, plaster, block, stone, concrete, and tile by preparing mortar to fasten materials.
  • Interprets sketches, plans, and blueprints and determines the appropriate methods, tools, and materials needed to complete repairs.
  • Performs inspections to determine the extent of damage and necessary repairs involved.
  • Installs or replaces metal, wood, or gypsum laths.
  • Sets up, dismantles, and works off of staging, ladders, lifts and dust containments.
  • Responds to emergency calls in cases of fire, flood, snow, or when determined necessary.
  • Installs access panels.
  • Utilizes an electronic device for receipt and updating of scheduled work orders.
  • Performs similar job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Five (5) years continuous, full-time experience working as a plasterer/mason.
  • Skill and experience in various plastering methods and materials, using lath broom and finish coats, stucco application and repair of tile, concrete, and brick.
  • Skill and experience working with concrete/masonry.
  • Ability to work both independently or with others productively and efficiently.
  • Ability to plan, layout, and perform work assignments, completing them timely and efficiently.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans and blueprints.
  • Basic math and measuring skills.
  • Positive attitude and excellent customer service skills to accomplish work efficiently and to high quality standards.
  • Capable of meeting the physical requirements of the job.
  • Experience setting up, dismantling and working on staging, ladders, lifts and dust containments.
  • Willingness to respond to overtime calls as needed.
  • Ability to utilize a smart phone or other basic electronic device to receive, update, document, and respond to work orders.
  • Ability to be relied upon to be available for work.
ENVIRONMENTAL & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • These positions require working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions and are subject to heavy and strenuous work. May encounter undesirable pests.
  • Ability to work in a public housing environment [within occupied and unoccupied units, common spaces, boiler rooms, elevators, other closed areas, roofs, outside areas of properties] in all weather conditions [hot, cold, humid, dry and wet].
  • Ability to work in an environment with conditions such as sleet, snow, dust and dirt, as well as cramped quarters and high places.
  • Ability to work in environment with conditions which may include: fumes, odors, gases, chemicals, dust, grass, weeds and pollen as well as decibels in the range of 30-65.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Constant [over 70% of the time]: Repetitive arm/hand movement, eyesight and hearing, bending and twisting at waist, reaching above shoulder, lifting and carrying 25 pounds, driving.
  • Frequent [30-70% of the time]: Lifting 50 pounds, climbing ladders, kneeling and squatting, standing and walking.
  • Occasionally [10-30% of the time] Sitting, lifting up to 75 pounds, pushing and pulling, crawling, climbing stairs.
