Job summary

New York City Housing Authority is seeking a Plasterer to prepare and apply plastering materials to interior and exterior surfaces. You will follow plans, apply finishes, patch walls, and maintain documentation.

The role involves working across all five boroughs and may require supervision of other workers. The ideal candidate has several years of plastering experience or a relevant apprenticeship, with ability to read plans and safely operate scaffolding.

Qualifications

  • Three years of full-time plastering experience or equivalent via apprentice work and formal training.
  • Six months of apprentice or related school training credited for each year of formal apprenticeship.
  • Ability to apply plaster finishes to interior/exterior surfaces per specs.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and apply plastering materials including fireproofing and cement stucco.
  • Apply plaster to walls, ceilings, piers, and columns using hawk and trowel.
  • Plaster partition walls and repair damaged plaster.
  • Tape and repair sheetrock; set up and work on scaffolds.
  • Follow plans and specifications; maintain records; supervise personnel.

Job description

Under supervision, prepare and apply plastering materials to interior and exterior surfaces; perform related work.

Examples of typical tasks include:

  • Prepare and apply all plastering materials which include; Fireproofing, Soundproofing, and all types of Cement Stucco, E.I.F.S. Stucco, etc.
  • Using a hawk and trowel, apply plastering materials to walls, ceilings, piers and columns.
  • Plaster partition walls and patch plaster walls with limited areas of damage.
  • Tape sheet rock and repair damaged sheet rock walls.
  • Set up and work on scaffolds.
  • Perform work in accordance with plans and specifications.
  • Maintain records.
  • Supervise assigned personnel.

Note: Assignment will be made throughout the five boroughs.

  • Candidates will be required to take and pass a practical exam. During the practical exam candidates will be required to apply a hard trowelled plaster finish on two walls and ceiling of a plastering booth. Booth must be finished to the designated size void of any imperfections. Candidates will also be required to make the walls and ceiling straight and true with three finished corners. Candidates are to wear a full Plasterer’s uniform; and have a full set of plaster tools. Duration of the Practical Exam will be 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of full-time satisfactory experience performing plastering work; or

At least one and half years of full-time satisfactory experience performing plastering work, plus sufficient full-time experience as a plasterer's apprentice, or training of a relevant nature acquired in an approved trade or vocational school, to make up the equivalent of three years of acceptable experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of apprentice experience or approved trade or vocational high school training.
