Job summary

BioLife Plasma Services in Ames, IA seeks a part-time plasma donor screener and phlebotomy assistant to support center operations. You will greet donors, record vital signs, screen donors, and manage donor compensation using our information system.

The position requires a high school diploma, ability to stand for long periods, and willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Some prior customer-facing experience is helpful and safety protocols involve glove use.

Qualifications

  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Prolonged glove wear due to exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
  • 1+ years of customer or patient-facing experience is helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Answer phones, greet donors, and attend to donors’ needs while ensuring safety.
  • Screen new and repeat donors and record donor vital signs and finger-stick results.
  • Use the Donor Information System, prepare donor charts, maintain records, and coordinate donor compensation.
  • Identify operational improvement opportunities and initiate approved changes to center processes.
  • Serve donors across a variety of shifts, including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

This role is truly part-time, with most shifts lasting between 4 to 6 hours a day, 3+ days per week—designed to fit your life.

  • Our patients depend on the plasma we collect, so your reliability during your scheduled hours is greatly valued. However, our part‑time roles are designed with the understanding that flexibility on both sides is key.
About The Role

Every day, the donors you meet will motivate you. The high‑quality plasma you collect will become life‑changing medicines. Here, a commitment to customer service and quality is expected. You will report to the Plasma Center Manager and will perform as a plasma donor screener and perform phlebotomy to support plasma center operations.

How You Will Contribute
  • You will answer phones, greet donors, and focus on their needs while ensuring safety for donors and our team.
  • You will screen new and repeat donors and take and record donor vital signs and finger‑stick results.
  • You will use our Donor Information System, prepare donor charts, maintain accurate records, and coordinate donor compensation.
  • You will help identify operational opportunities for continuous improvement and initiate changes to center processes using company‑approved procedures.
  • You will serve donors, which includes working a variety of shifts, Saturdays and Sundays, and holidays.
What You Bring To Takeda
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to walk and/or stand for the entire work shift
  • Will work evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to lean, bend, stoop, crouch, and reach above shoulders and below knees
  • Ability to lift to 5 lbs., and occasional lifting of materials up to 32 lbs. and rarely 50 lbs.
  • Fine motor coordination, depth perception, and ability to hear equipment from a distance
  • Because of potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens (risk level 1), 90% of work tasks require prolonged glove wear
  • 1 or more years minimum experience working in a customer or patient‑facing role is helpful
