Pay Rate: $35.00/hour (W2 with full benefits + overtime)

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 3rd shift (nights)

Job Summary:

Operates and maintains all utilities equipment and systems independently under the general supervision of the utilities group leader or utilities manager. Routinely performs and/or directs all patrol and control operator duties of the utility trainee and/or utility operator. Performs both control and patrol operator duties in rotational assignments. Specific tasks performed include all duties of the utility trainee and utility operator.

Job Duties:

  • Oversee the equipment operation needed to maintain utility requirements. This includes the operation of boilers, turbines, chillers, compressors, distillation units, gauges and controls, pumps, fans, and more.
  • Maintain the sanitary effluent sample stations and obtain samples for Corporate Environmental Control and North Shore Sanitary District.
  • Oversee the Distributed Control System and make observations to detect any equipment problems and act to correct those problems.
  • Adjust controls to respond to requested levels, setpoints, and parameters needed.
  • Inspect electrical distribution centers and machine rooms for fire, flooding, or other abnormal conditions.
  • Obtain samples and conduct chemistry analyses on boiler water, tower water, condensate, potable and service water, and make the necessary adjustments.
  • Serve as the primary contact for afterhours emergencies and contact appropriate on or off-site personnel to facilitate repairs.
  • Assume leadership role in responding to utilities emergencies.
  • Able to comprehend and utilize complex manuals, drawings, etc. related to the installation/modification/maintenance of equipment and/or systems.
  • Mechanical and machine component utility systems troubleshooting.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience operating and monitoring facility utilities (e.g., boilers, chillers, pumps, compressors, etc.).
  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems and equipment, including but not limited to pumps, valves, piping, etc.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and determine the cause of improper machine operation and make necessary adjustments and repairs to return to proper operation.
  • Ability to perform well with minimal supervision and work well with others.
  • Ability and willingness to work a night shift (Monday - Friday).
