Job summary

New York State Office of Mental Health is seeking a Plant Utilities Engineer 1 for NYC Children's Center to join the physical plant operations team. The role involves routine operation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and boiler systems, responding to calls, and performing tests with chemical adjustments as needed.

The position emphasizes building systems knowledge, adherence to safety, and potential eligibility for HELPS programs or internal transfers within state service.

Qualifications

• HVAC/boiler maintenance and operation experience.
• Completion of relevant apprenticeship or licensure as listed in NYS HELPS program.
• One year of related mechanical/electrical/plumbing work may be substituted for certain qualifications.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience may qualify for transfer.
• State service experience or HELPS program eligibility can apply for transfer.

Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain, and repair HVAC and mechanical equipment inside and outside the plant.
• Clean, inspect, and maintain boilers.
• Respond to mechanical, electrical, or plumbing calls and perform repairs.
• Test boilers, HVAC, and water systems; analyze results and adjust chemicals as needed.
