Job summary

PSC Water is seeking a journey-level Plant Operator to join our operations team in Austin. This full-time, non-exempt role involves operating and monitoring water or wastewater treatment plant equipment, reading gauges, diagnosing issues, and compiling reports.

You will perform maintenance, document data, and adapt to new equipment and systems. The position requires a Class C Water/Wastewater Certification, with ArcGIS experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Class C Water/Wastewater Certification is required.
  • ArcGIS experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor water or wastewater treatment plant equipment.
  • Read, interpret, and calibrate gauges and other recording devices.
  • Diagnose operating problems and take effective action.
  • Maintain records and compile data into reports.
  • Perform routine to difficult maintenance, repairs, and installations to plant equipment.
  • Perform heavy manual labor.
  • Schedule maintenance and repair of plants.
  • Logically solve problems.
  • Operate office equipment and supporting software.
  • Adapt to changing technologies and learn new equipment.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.

This is the full journey-level class within the Plant Operator / System series. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work process. This is a full-time, non-exempt position paid on an hourly basis.

Responsibilities
  • Operate and monitor water or wastewater treatment plant equipment.
  • Read, interpret, and calibrate gauges and other recording devices related to water or wastewater treatment plant operations.
  • Diagnose operating problems and take effective courses of action.
  • Maintain pertinent records and compile data into written reports.
  • Perform routine to difficult maintenance, repairs, and installations to plant equipment such as pumps, valves, and electronic monitoring devices.
  • Perform heavy manual labor.
  • Schedule maintenance and repair of water or wastewater treatment plants.
  • Logically solve problems.
  • Operate office equipment including computers and supporting software applications.
  • Adapt to changing technologies and learn functionality of new equipment and systems.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
