Job summary

Technical Metal Specialties is seeking a Production Supervisor to oversee and coordinate manufacturing operations on the 2nd shift. You will supervise up to 15 employees and drive teamwork, quality, and cost control to meet production targets at our New Berlin, WI plant.

Ideal candidates have an Associate's degree or related experience in metal fabrication and prior leadership experience. Benefits include PTO, holidays, 401(k) contributions, and a quarterly incentive plan; the plant is climate

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in related field, or six months to one year related experience and/or training.
  • Three to five years’ experience working in a metal fabrication environment.
  • Previous experience leading and directing the work of others.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate manufacturing operations across shifts.
  • Foster teamwork and continuous improvement; develop employees and monitor quality and costs.
  • Manage training, safety, and adherence to production schedules.
  • Review work orders, blueprints, and toolings; coordinate with Engineering.
  • Ensure equipment maintenance and preventative maintenance is performed.

Summary

Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in manufacturing operations and fosters an environment of teamwork and continuous improvement. Responsible for the development of employees, quality and quantity of products, manufacturing costs, proper methods and tooling applications, effective utilization of production hours, skills, machines, technology and facilities across all departments.

Essential duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Ensures consistency in processes and procedures between all shifts. Works with Production Supervisors to coordinate subordinate training, improvement initiatives, and production requirements.
  • Ensures effective employee relations. Provides employee coaching and development. May make employment decisions.
  • Performs the work of production positions when needed in the areas of: laser operator, brake press operator, weld, robot weld, turret presses, assembly and miscellaneous fabrication.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems by facilitating and supporting team efforts to identify problems and implement corrective actions. Recognizes team achievements and celebrates successes.
  • Balances quality, productivity, cost, safety and morale to achieve positive results in all areas.
  • Manages departmental performance measures, including visual controls and provides regular progress reports to manager.
  • Analyzes work orders and blueprints to determine information such as material to be used, type of operations, and sequence of operations required. Work with Engineering Department to clarify or make any necessary adjustments as required.
  • Confer with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments, cross functional department activities and participates in weekly production meetings.
  • Ensures equipment is in good operating condition and all preventative maintenance has been performed. Coordinates repairs and scheduled maintenance with Maintenance Department as required.
  • Recommends and implements new capital equipment and ideas to improve quality, production, processes, or working conditions.
  • Studies production schedules and sales forecasts, reviews work center loads and sets priorities to execute during daily operations through staff and work center assignments.
  • Maintains compliance with company policies, safety standards, and good housekeeping practices and contributes to a positive work environment.
  • Set clear expectations, provide necessary tools to meet expectations and hold direct reports accountable.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises up to 15 employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing concerns and resolving problems.
