Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain daily, weekly, and long‑range production schedules.
• Sequence production to meet demand while maximizing efficiency.
• Manage scheduling timelines and changes through the planning process.
• Monitor performance and coordinate recovery plans during disruptions.
• Lead scheduling meetings and document key decisions.
• Execute SAP Planning & Data Management tasks.
• Create, release, update, monitor, and close production orders in SAP.
• Review MRP results, inventory, capacity, and status to identify issues.
• Maintain accurate scheduling data and update routings/BOMs/lead times.
• Reconcile SAP data with actual production and shipment status.
• Verify material, tooling, and resource availability before scheduling.
• Identify bottlenecks and underutilized resources in capacity planning.

Job description

The Plant Scheduler is responsible for creating and maintaining production schedules for the Baytown manufacturing facility. This role balances customer demand, inventory levels, material availability, production capacity, labor resources, maintenance activities, and quality requirements to support safe and efficient operations. The Plant Scheduler works closely with Planning, Production, Sales, Procurement, Logistics, Quality, Maintenance, and Finance. The role uses SAP to manage production plans, maintain accurate scheduling data, monitor performance, and communicate schedule changes and risks.

Working Conditions:

This position is primarily office-based but requires regular time in manufacturing, warehouse, and shipping areas. Required PPE and all safety procedures must be followed when entering operational areas.

The role may require: Extended computer use, walking through the plant, Participation in early morning or off-shift meetings, Occasional work outside normal business hours to address schedule changes or business needs

1. Qualifications

• 1.1 Bachelor’s or Associate's degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Business, Engineering, or a related field preferred. High school diploma/GED with relevant experience accepted.
• 1.2 Three or more years of experience in production scheduling, planning, inventory control, or manufacturing operations, preferably in steel, pipe, metals, or other industrial environments.
• 1.3 Experience using SAP or similar ERP/MRP systems for production planning, inventory management, reporting, and scheduling. SAP experience preferred.
• 1.4 Understanding of production planning concepts including capacity planning, routings, work centers, bills of material, lead times, inventory management, and production order status.
• 1.5 Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, lookups, reporting, and data analysis. Power BI experience is a plus.
• 1.6 Ability to balance customer demand, materials, labor, equipment, quality, and delivery requirements to create realistic production schedules.
• 1.7 Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
• 1.8 Effective communication skills with the ability to work across departments and explain scheduling decisions.
• 1.9 Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and elevate issues when needed.

2. Responsibilities

• 2.1 Develop and maintain daily, weekly, and long‑range production schedules based on customer demand, inventory, capacity, materials, maintenance needs, and business priorities.
• 2.2 Sequence production to meet customer requirements while maximizing efficiency and minimizing delays.
• 2.3 Manage scheduling timelines and control schedule changes through the approved planning process.
• 2.4 Monitor schedule performance and coordinate recovery plans when disruptions occur.
• 2.5 Lead scheduling meetings and document key decisions and action items.
• 2.6 SAP Planning & Data Management
• 2.7 Create, release, update, monitor, and close production orders in SAP.
• 2.8 Review MRP results, inventory levels, capacity loads, production status, and exception messages to identify issues.
• 2.9 Maintain accurate scheduling data and coordinate updates to routings, bills of material, lead times, and other planning data.
• 2.10 Reconcile SAP data with actual production, inventory, quality holds, and shipment status.
• 2.11 Verify material, tooling, packaging, and resource availability before production is scheduled.
• 2.12 Review production capacity and identify potential bottlenecks or underutilized resources.
• 2.13 Work with Procurement, Inventory, Production, Maintenance, Logistics, and Quality teams to resolve schedule constraints.
• 2.14 Support contingency planning for rush orders, material shortages, equipment downtime, and other disruptions.
