Description

Under general supervision, performs responsible technical work in the operation of a water or sewer treatment plant on and assigned shift. Responsible for plant operation and maintenance duties to meet State and Federal standards, protecting public health and the environment. Reports to the Superintendent.

Essential Job Functions
  • Inspect plant equipment, take water or sewage samples, perform laboratory analyses, and adjust treatment processes accordingly.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
  • Conduct physical and chemical tests, including bacteriological counts.
  • Maintain supplies of chemicals and assist in training new employees.
  • Check for leaks, calibrate equipment, and respond to public calls for emergency repairs.
  • Monitor control panels and pressure gauges, keep detailed records, and report serious issues immediately.
Minimum Requirements
  • High School or Vocational School graduation.
  • At least 1 year of experience operating electrical and mechanical machinery in a water/sewer treatment setting.
  • Equivalent training and experience may be considered.
Certifications and Licenses
  • Class "C" water or wastewater plant operator license from Florida Department of Professional Regulation.
  • Must obtain and maintain a second Class "C" license within 36 months.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record; may require a Class "B" CDL with air brake endorsement.
