How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?
The Plant Operator is responsible for safely operating equipment for the handling and production of packaged gas cylinders, including high pressure and liquefied gases.
As the "face of Airgas," the Delivery Driver is responsible for safely and efficiently delivering compressed gas cylinders to local and regional business customers from an Airgas branch or plant using a company-provided tractor trailer, straight, or box truck. This role involves loading, unloading, delivering, and returning cylinders, with frequent customer interaction.
In particular, you will:
- Load and unload gas cylinders and other products onto and off of route trucks and trailers, using proper carts.
- Sort empty cylinders by type.
- Move cylinders and operate a forklift for handling on pallets.
- Understand hazards associated with various gases; interpret labels and color-coding to identify cylinder contents. Ensure cylinders are properly labeled.
- Handle high-pressure, medical, and liquid cylinders. Prepare cylinders and cryogenic vessels for filling, including attaching to manifolds and evacuating to prevent contamination.
- Perform basic cylinder maintenance such as painting, labeling, and cleaning.
- Inspect cylinders before filling, following all safety procedures and standards.
- Manage inventory and assist with quantity checks.
- Complete paperwork in compliance with DOT, FDA, OSHA, and Airgas standards.
- Follow all safety standards for handling hazardous materials.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Safely deliver cylinders to customer locations, record deliveries, and collect signatures.
- Establish and maintain positive customer relations, addressing inquiries and complaints.
- Communicate any issues or changes to management or sales staff promptly.
- Perform cylinder inspections and maintain load manifests and vehicle documentation in accordance with regulations.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any issues.
- Adhere strictly to safety rules and report accidents or injuries immediately.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Are you a MATCH?
- HS Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- One year of experience in manufacturing or loading preferred.
- Background in gas, welding, safety supply, or chemical industry preferred.
- Strong communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to read and interpret safety and operating documents.
- Detail-oriented.
- Ability to operate a forklift safely.
- Proficient in basic math.
- Adhere to safety programs and regulations.
- Valid Class B Driver's License.
- One year of recent Class B driving experience with a clean record, or equivalent training from a driving school.
- At least 21 years old.
- Preferred: experience in gas/welding/safety supply industry, valid Medical Examiner's Card, Hazmat & Airbrake certifications.
