Ann Arbor, MI - Retail shop

How will you CONTRIBUTE and GROW?

The Plant Operator is responsible for safely operating equipment for the handling and production of packaged gas cylinders, both for high pressure and liquefied gases.

As the "face of Airgas", the Delivery Driver is responsible for safely and efficiently delivering compressed gas cylinders to local and regional business customers from an Airgas branch or plant location using a company-provided tractor trailer, straight, or box truck. This position involves loading, unloading, delivering, and returning compressed gas cylinders while frequently interacting with Airgas customers.

In particular, you will:

  • Load and unload gas cylinders and/or other products onto and off of route trucks and trailers using proper carts.
  • Sort empty cylinders by type.
  • Operate a forklift for moving cylinders on pallets.
  • Understand hazards of various gases; interpret cylinder labels and color-coding; accurately label cylinders.
  • Handle high-pressure, medical, and liquid cylinders; prepare high-pressure cylinders and cryogenic vessels for filling; attach to manifold and evacuate cylinders.
  • Perform basic cylinder maintenance such as painting, labeling, and cleaning.
  • Inspect cylinders prior to filling, conduct safety checks, and fill cylinders per regulations.
  • Manage paperwork to comply with DOT, FDA, OSHA, and Airgas standards; complete quality control sheets.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards for handling hazardous materials.
  • Maintain a clean and organized plant appearance.
  • Safely load, deliver, and unload cylinders; record deliveries; obtain customer signatures; manage empty cylinders.
  • Establish and maintain good customer relations; resolve service inquiries and complaints.
  • Communicate promptly with management and sales regarding customer issues.
  • Perform cylinder inspections and maintain load manifests and vehicle documents.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections; report deficiencies.
  • Observe safety rules and report accidents or injuries.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Are you a MATCH?

  • HS Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • One year of manufacturing or loading experience preferred.
  • Background in gas, welding, safety supply, or chemical industry preferred.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills for working with diverse individuals.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety and operating documents.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Ability to operate a forklift safely.
  • Ability to perform math functions.
  • Adherence to Airgas safety programs and regulations.
  • Valid Class A Driver's License.
  • One year of recent Class A driving experience with a clean record or equivalent training from a driving school.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Experience in gas, welding, or safety supply industry preferred.
  • Valid Medical Examiner's Card.
  • Hazmat & Airbrake Certifications or ability to obtain them.
