Job summary

Intermountain Health’s Central Laundry in Woods Cross, UT is seeking a Plan Operator I for a full-time, Tue-Sat 12pm-9pm shift. Entry-level plant operations experience preferred; duties include operating, maintaining, and repairing boiler and chiller systems, and assisting with related projects in a hospital environment.

You will manage water treatment, assist with boiler/chiller teardown and major maintenance, and ensure a clean, safe workspace while communicating effectively with staff.

Qualifications

  • Some plant operator experience or related field experience.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills and attention to safety protocols.
  • Valid driver’s license may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and repair boiler and chiller systems including water treatment and inspections.
  • Assist in boiler/chiller teardown and major maintenance tasks.
  • Winterize chillers and cooling towers; troubleshoot HVAC controls.
  • Maintain clean and safe work area and manage workload with minimal supervision.
  • Accurately submit timekeeping documentation.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of HVAC equipment including boilers, chillers, pumps, and cooling towers.

Job Description

The Plan Operator is a position in the Facilities Management department that requires entry-level experience in plant operations. Regardless of specialty, a Plant Operator I may be required to perform other maintenance tasks as needed, such as minor repairs or assisting with other projects.

Schedule

Tuesday- Saturday 12pm-9pm

Prefer forklift, electrical and plumbing experience

Essential Functions
  • Responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the hospital's boiler and/or chiller systems. This includes performing water treatment on boilers, steam systems, chillers, and cooling towers, as well as maintaining and preparing these systems for inspections.

  • Performs or assists in boiler and chiller teardown and major maintenance.

  • Assists in winterizing chillers and cooling towers, troubleshooting and maintaining HVAC digital and pneumatic controls, and ensuring the cleanliness of their working area and assigned locations.

  • Eectively communicates with staff at all levels and prioritize their workload to manage their time effectively with minimal supervision.

  • Responsible for the accurate and timely submission of timekeeping documentation.

  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of HVAC systems and equipment, including boilers, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, air handling equipment, and other terminal HVAC devices.

Required Qualifications
  • Some experience as a plant operator.

Physical Requirements
  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
  • Frequent interactions with customers that require employee to communicate as well as understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer, phone, and cable set-up and use.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transport, pull, and push equipment. Will also work on hands and knees and bend to set-up, troubleshoot lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
  • Bending, lifting, stooping, crawling, laying, sitting, walking, climbing.
  • Use of hand and power tools, proper use of hearing and eye protection.
  • Exposure to extreme temperatures in nature, work in noisy or constricted spaces, exposure to odors and smells.
