Qualifications

Job description

Position Highlights:

The Plant Operator I performs demand and scheduled preventive maintenance of the facility equipment to primarily include Mechanical, Utilities, and associated systems in accordance with departmental, hospital, and regulatory agency codes. Specific duties include maintaining facilities and equipment in a hospital or clinic environment.

Responsibilities:

  1. Demonstrates technical knowledge depth for mechanical, utilities, and associated systems according to standards established by the management team. Can identify different types of mechanical specific tools and materials and how to use them, basic math skills.
  2. Performs general maintenance repairs and other duties as assigned as referenced in the Unit Specific Competency Checklist and performs any work assignment in conjunction with the skill sets required of the job, not necessarily within the craft line.
  3. Responds to emergency situations including disaster response, power and other utility loss, floods, etc. to limit the effect on the facility.
  4. Ensures that all work is performed using the proper PPE to ensure a safe environment including Arc Flash. Demonstrates proficiency in the ability to perform basic power and hand tool skills.
  5. Demonstrates knowledge and use of power tools utilized in construction trades; uses power tools safely and properly maintains power tools.
  6. Responsible for safe and proper operation as noted in Unit Specific Competency Check.
  7. Demonstrates the ability to use maintenance equipment including hand-held power tools, computers for building automation and computerized maintenance management systems, and to resource with others effectively.
  8. Provides complete documentation as required by management and for authorities having jurisdiction specifically including but not limited to work order documentation.
  9. Performs basic infection prevention procedures.
  10. Identifies changes that are needed on all prints and notifies the supervisor when changes are made to existing spaces and new projects.
  11. Demonstrates ability to work from blueprint and estimate projects and create a bill of materials. Plans, organizes, and coordinates small projects.
  12. Demonstrates knowledge and skills required for a Third-Grade Stationary Engineer's license.
  13. Assists with, oversees, and/or inspects repairs or modifications performed by contractors.
  14. Manages individual inventory following departmental inventory management and control parameters. Demonstrates safe work practices, compliance with OSHA requirements, effective communication, and customer service skills.
  15. Demonstrates management skills such as planning, coordination, estimating, and scheduling skills. Demonstrates troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  16. Demonstrates knowledge of usage of maintenance equipment and diagnostics to facilitate troubleshooting and repair processes.
  17. Creates a bill of materials from blueprints.
  18. Performs other duties as needed for the hospital within expectations established by management.
  19. Identifies different types of solder and their usage.
  20. Identifies different mechanical-specific materials and their application. Demonstrates knowledge of components and functionality of a condensate pump.

Credentials and Experience:

  1. High School Diploma
  2. Valid Florida Driver's License
  3. Six (6) years of Experience as a Chiller/Boiler Service Related Technician is required.
  4. Ability to work various work shifts and/or weekends as needed.
  5. Ability to travel between other Moffitt Cancer Center facilities.
  6. Evidence of a good driving record and maintaining a good record per Moffitt policy.

Preferred:

  1. Three (3) years of experience in a hospital in a related field.
