We are looking to fill the position of Plant Operations Specialist (Wastewater Plant Operator (POI)). This role involves monitoring plant operations through physical observation, sampling, maintaining records, calibrating meters, monitoring chemical feeds, and making process adjustments. You will also check equipment and perform minor repairs.

Once certified in Wastewater Treatment, you must be willing and able to work every other weekend and be available by phone for standby/recall as needed.

  • Assist with operating, adjusting, and maintaining equipment at water or wastewater facilities; monitor plant processes; collect and analyze lab samples under supervision; and follow safety procedures.
  • Perform minor repairs and cleaning of equipment; unload chemicals.
  • Maintain records, logs, and online systems; ensure accuracy and completeness.

Minimum requirements include:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSET, TASC)
  • Six months of related experience in manufacturing, warehousing, utility, or general industry
  • Obtain Grade I Wastewater Treatment Operator’s License within one year and Grade II within two years of hire
  • Valid, unrestricted North Carolina driver’s license or willingness to obtain one within 60 days

Skills needed include basic math and chemistry calculations, interpreting readings, and performing arithmetic operations involving whole numbers, decimals, and fractions. Related experience is also required.
