Universal Health Services, Inc. is seeking a Driver / Plant Operations Technician to coordinate internal and external transportation and perform a wide range of maintenance tasks within the hospital.

The role requires a high school diploma and at least two years in a related field, plus a clean driving record and tool-handling skills. You will be part of on-call rotations and help sustain reliable facility operations.

Responsibilities

  • Organize daily driving needs for internal and external transportation.

  • Maintain electrical equipment in good working condition.
  • Perform preventive maintenance per schedule.
  • Repair/replace defective parts using hand/power tools and testing equipment.
  • Operate hospital vehicle to transport tools, parts, supplies, or personnel as needed.
  • Assist in emergencies and support facility-wide quality/performance improvement goals.

Responsibilities

Position Summary: The Driver / Plant Operations Technician performs a variety of tasks, including coordination of internal and external transportation, driving, carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, HVAC, test and inspections of physical facility equipment and preventive maintenance and various janitorial duties with minimal supervision. Technicians are required to repair and replace parts in equipment throughout the hospital in accordance with diagrams, sketches, and operation manuals using various hand and power tools. Troubleshoots and performs various tests on equipment in making operational assessments.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required; two years' experience in a related maintenance field, technical or trade school preferred.

Additional Requirements: Must have a clean driving record, and be able to pass a driving test including a road test. Must have experience in operating a variety of hand/power tools and equipment ensuring proper safety precautions, as well as experience in the area of building maintenance. Must have a basic knowledge of computers, copiers and fax machines.

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Must be able to organize the daily driving needs of the facility including scheduling of internal and external transportation needs.
  • When not dispatching and driving, performs work in the maintenance department such as painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, preventive maintenance, HVAC and tests and inspections of the physical facility.
  • Will be assigned as part of the departmental on-call rotation.
  • Maintain all electrical equipment in good working condition as required.
  • Perform preventive maintenance per schedule as required.
  • Perform all tasks such as painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, preventive maintenance, HVAC and tests and inspections of the physical facility.
  • Clean kitchen grease traps and dispose of infectious/contaminated waste according to policy.
  • Complete preventive maintenance, inspections, and required filter changes on schedule.
  • Dismantles and examines parts in an attempt to solve equipment problems, repairs or replaces defective parts and makes necessary adjustments to ensure proper functioning of equipment.
  • Repairs and maintains, in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operational manuals and verbal instructions, machinery and technical equipment using hand tools, power tools and testing equipment.
  • Responsible for keeping tools and materials in good condition and in their proper location.
  • Report on any situations that may affect the health and well‑being of patients, staff, or visitors. Monitors the supply of parts needed to perform job duties and inform supervisor/manager when inventories are low and need to be replaced.
  • Assist in any emergencies that may arise.
  • Support facility wide quality/performance improvement goals

  • Participates in the on-call rotation with the other Technicians.
  • Drives a facility vehicle as needed to transport tools, parts, supplies, equipment, or personnel in support of hospital operations
  • Performs other duties as assigned/required by this position.
