Description

The Plant Manager of Torque Converter Operations is responsible for leading and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the torque converter facility. This role is focused on ensuring consistent production output, adherence to safety and quality standards, cost-effective operations, and employee engagement. The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has deep knowledge of remanufacturing processes, continuous improvement, and people development.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all daily plant operations including teardown, cleaning, reconditioning, assembly, testing, and shipping.
  • Ensure production targets are achieved while maintaining high standards in quality, safety, and delivery.
  • Partner with the Production, Quality, Engineering, and Materials teams to improve workflow, reduce downtime, and drive throughput.
  • Drive improvements in employee engagement by establishing regular 1:1 meeting cadence between operators and their supervisors/managers and participating in all company-wide performance review initiatives
  • Hire, train, coach, and develop frontline supervisors/managers and operators to build a strong, accountable team.
  • Monitor and report key operational metrics such as labor cost per unit, scrap rates, first pass yield, and throughput
  • Identify and resolve production bottlenecks using Lean and Six Sigma tools; lead kaizen events where appropriate.
  • Maintain and enforce compliance with company policies and OSHA/EPA regulations.
  • Drive 5S and other workplace organization initiatives.
  • Serve as primary on-site leader for problem resolution and operational coordination.

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment, preferably in remanufacturing or automotive.
  • 3+ years of direct leadership experience in a plant or operations management role.
  • Proven track record of improving operational KPIs through structured process improvement.
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and standard work; Black Belt certification preferred.
  • Strong understanding of torque converter or transmission-related manufacturing processes is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, team-building, and leadership skills.
  • Experience working with ERP systems, production tracking tools, and data-driven decision-making.
